History[edit]

Background[edit]

Very little is known about Orbulon’s past, except for the fact that hisOinker was a gift given to him byhis father. Not much is also known about his species or home planet; however, inWarioWare: Twisted!, in his Spindex description, he states that on his home planet, time moves at half the speed it does on earth. InGame & Wario, upon calling the Otherworldly Call Code, the player can call a young alien, whose nightstand has a photo of them with another alien that bears a strong resemblance to Orbulon, except they are purple. Whether or not this alien is Orbulon's kind is unknown. Additionally, the Ancient Deity inWarioWare: Move It! also bears a strong resemblance to Orbulon (to the point of theWoods Watchers mistaking Orbulon for it), though it is also unknown if the two are related.

WarioWare series[edit]

WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$![edit]

Orbulon is seen in the intro ofWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, where he is called by Wario to join his companyWarioWare, Inc. and to produce microgames for his upcoming game. Like Wario's other friends in Diamond City, Orbulon agrees. Orbulon's microgames are of theIQ genre. As its name implies, Orbulon's games require more thinking than the other developers' games. Because of that, they are twice as long as other microgames. At the end of Wario's second story, Orbulon briefly appears with the other employees to demand their pay. When Wario runs away, he is shocked.

Scene from Orbulon's story: The Alien Bunnies in their ship try to rescue Orbulon whose Oinker was crashed by a meteoroid.
The Space Hares go to rescue Orbulon.

In his own story, Orbulon approaches Earth in hisUFO. Suddenly, a meteoroid flies into the ship and causes it to malfunction. Orbulon, distraught, runs to the exit door and sends a distress call. Shortly after this, a rescue team ofSpace Hares flies by and stops by the UFO. From their spaceship, they send a cylindrical container connected with a chain into the UFO. He enters it, and the Space Hares retract it into their ship.

Once the container returns to the Space Hares' ship, Orbulontells the player to watch his alien powers. Soon after, a Space Hare pulls a switch and lets the container fall back into the UFO. This causes it to land near theGelateria. At the Gelateria, Orbulon repeatedly pops out of the UFO. In the Japanese version, Orbulon tells the Space Hares he will make them his underlings, and the switch is pulled upon their refusal.

In the unlockable dual-player mini-game "VS Hurdle", Orbulon appears as the character of the player who has to use theL Button button and has to reach the finish in a hurdle race before Dr. Crygor, the other player's character.

WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$![edit]

A "Dreamy Drive" scene
Dribble asking the assumed woman where to go.

InWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$!, Orbulon loses his UFO in space for an unknown reason, while still being on Diamond City's planet. To return to it, Orbulon shapeshifts into a woman with red hair and black clothing. He hails a taxi, namelyDribble & Spitz'staxi. After being asked for the destination, Orbulon replies with "the farthest reaches of outer space". Dribble agrees to this and drives the taxi there. By the time the taxi reaches space, Orbulon returns to his normal form.

After the taxi passes a planetoid, the UFO rises and abducts the taxi. From there, Orbulon thanks Dribble & Spitz and decides to make them his underlings. In response, the two yell "numbskull" at him, causing a meteoroid to hurtle towards the UFO. It misses, but a group of smaller meteoroids hits the UFO and causes it to spiral towards Diamond City. This time, it falls directly intoDr. Crygor'sLab. Once it lands, it startles Dr. Crygor and is sent high into the air. When he falls back down, the three greet him. Now with Dr. Crygor, the taxi travels by water to return to the mainland.

He and the rest of the WarioWare, Inc. employees are atRestaurant Sora Sora during the cast roll.

In addition to his IQ microgames returning, Orbulon hosts the multiplayer modeAll For One, which is a cooperative mode instead of competitive. He is also one of the ten selectable characters in multiplayer games. He is one of the small characters, meaning that he moves fast and leaves afterimages over the screen inOutta My Way andSurvival Fever. His shoes and cape are tinted in the player's color.

WarioWare: Twisted![edit]

Scene from Orbulon's story: Orbulon and his "bunny minions", two Alien Bunnies, inside of the Oinker. Steering the ship wiped Orbulon out.
Orbulon and his "bunny minions" inside of the UFO.

InWarioWare: Twisted!, Orbulon travels in space again with the UFO. However, steering the ship tires him out, so he gives this task to his two "bunny minions", which are both Alien Bunnies. Orbulon relaxes in his seat behind his minions at the control panel. He assigns one Alien Bunny to rub his shoulders but is unsatisfied by it, so Orbulon assigns the player to massage him. After the massage, Orbulon decides to take a nap and tells his minions to take care of the ship. However, 30 minutes later, the Bunnies decide to take naps as well.

Three hours later, an alarm in the ship warns the crew that the ship approaches a black hole. Quickly, Orbulon tries to activate the ship's Warp Mode to escape, but in his panic, he forgets the password for a moment but remembers it after a bit. Orbulon and his minions manage to escape at the last second. To rest, they steer the spaceship to an assumed planet. However, it is actuallySpace Monster Gabriel, a giant, planet-like being with a big mouth. Gabriel opens its mouth and tries to eat the UFO, but soon spits out the spaceship which crashes nearClub Sugar. He dances along with the other people there.

InWario-Man's story, Orbulon givesMona,Kat, Ana,9-Volt, and18-Volt a flight in his spaceship. All five humans sit on seats behind Orbulon. This time, he steers a slightly differently shaped yellow UFO. During their journey, the occupants notice an unknown being in space wearing a purple mecha suit. It is Wario who has accidentally transformed into Wario-Man and gained a mecha suit because of Dr. Crygor'sGravitator. However, Orbulon does recognize Wario and so the UFO attacks the presumed enemy and destroys Wario-Man's mecha suit. After the suit is removed, Orbulon and the others seem to identify Wario, who falls into the sea near Dr. Crygor's Lab.

InWarioWare: Twisted!, Orbulon's microgames continue to last longer than other developers' games and require more thinking again. In this game, his set of microgames is calledTime Warp and the player has to use all kinds of spinning techniques.

In the mini-gameBatting Practice, Orbulon briefly shows up in his UFO when the player manages to score five home runs. Like the other WarioWare developers, there aresouvenirs related to Orbulon, namely afan, afigurine, and alightwand.

WarioWare: Touched![edit]

Scene from Ashley's story: Orbulon, who lost his Oinker, is about to bump into Ashley.
Orbulon and Ashley, about to bump into each other.

While Orbulon does not have a story segment inWarioWare: Touched!, he makes a few appearances in other characters' stories. InAshley &Red's story, Orbulon flies his spaceship overAshley's Mansion. Suddenly, a lightning bolt strikes theOinker and boots Orbulon out of it. While the Oinker flies away, Orbulon falls near the mansion. He runs after the Oinker but collides with Ashley. She gets mad, with her hair turning white with anger. Orbulon excuses himself for his mishap and runs away frightened. However, Ashley says that Orbulon is the missing ingredient that she needs for her magic potion. Red offers to catch the alien for her and chases after Orbulon, attacking him with his trident. Orbulon manages to escape from Red.

Orbulon briefly reappears in9-Volt and18-Volt's story. While they return to9-Volt's House, they pass by Orbulon who chases after the flying Oinker.

In the character selection screen, Orbulon appears in his Oinker, despite not having a stage. His purpose is to store newly obtained souvenirs in his spaceship until the player taps it with the Stylus. Souvenirs that are not stored in the Toy Room also appear in the Oinker again when the player starts the game.

InWarioWare: Touched!, other developers have double-length microgames, which means that the trait is no longer exclusive to Orbulon. This also applies to all later WarioWare games.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves[edit]

Orbulon in the Temple of Form in WarioWare: Smooth Moves
Orbulon sliding on the ground in the Temple of Form.

InWarioWare: Smooth Moves, Orbulon briefly appears at the end ofTiny Wario's story. While someSplunks chase Wario, he looks at a glass door with awe. When his stage is unlocked, the Oinker flies around before crashing into the ground. Orbulon then pops out from under the Oinker. When his stage is selected, he inspects the Oinker and pulls out a device. He presses it several times and causes it to explode.

During his story, Orbulon travels through outer space with the Oinker. Suddenly, it is hit by theBalance Stone, causing it to crash-land into theTemple of Form. Orbulon gets thrown out of the Oinker and bounces and slides on the ground inside of the temple. The object falls into the temple as well, hitting Orbulon's head and bouncing forward. He looks forward and sees theForm Baton and Balance Stone glowing. He picks up the artifacts and holds both in his hands. This causes the Temple of Form to rise from the ground. He begins to panic until he sees writing that explains how to use the Form Baton and Balance Stone. After raising the temple into space, Orbulon claims that the "spaceship" now belongs to him. Many Splunks quickly surround him and demand him to give back the Form Baton. During this, the Temple of Form falls towards its original location. Once it returns, the Oinker with Orbulon inside is launched away.

InWarioWare: Smooth Moves Orbulon hostsa set of microgames again. This time, his microgames involve The Diner form, meaning that the player has to use both theWii Remote (Form Baton) and theNunchuk (Balance Stone).

WarioWare: D.I.Y.[edit]

Orbulon is trapped on the rocket.

Orbulon, along withMona,Jimmy T., 9-Volt, and Ashley, leave Wario in favor of developing games forDiamond Software inWarioWare: D.I.Y. In his stage, the Oinker gets hit by lightning again, which causes him to be popped out and fall on a rocket shortly before it launches, taking Orbulon with it high into the air. During his intermissions, a news reporter wonders what is in the rocket ship, closing up on Orbulon as he screams from within the rocket.

InWarioWare: D.I.Y., Orbulon returns to his original role and hosts a new set of IQ microgames again.

Game & Wario[edit]

Orbulon returns inGame & Wario as the host of theSketch minigame. He also makes a few appearances in the main story, where he is first seen crash-landing his Oinker during the montage of characters reacting to the new video game device. Orbulon is then seen dancing with everyone in Club Sugar in the ending of the story mode just asCaptain Wario crash lands into the club. Orbulon is also among the many characters depicted as a pin during theBowling minigame.

WarioWare Gold[edit]

Orbulon in Touch League
Orbulon with several Little Hammies

InWarioWare Gold, Orbulon is among those that Wario calls to produce microgames for him for theWario Bowl games. Like the others, Orbulon obliges. Throughout the game, Orbulon appears to almost exclusively ride in his Oinker instead of walking.

Orbulon hosts the final round of the Touch League, so his microgames involve the Touch Screen. His microgames are in the "Fantasy" genre, though Orbulon disagrees with the categorization. In his story, Orbulon in his Oinker goes to the fast-food restaurantGigantaburger. Being served byDanny at the drive-through, Orbulon orders chilly fries, which he opines are "scrummy" and "starchy". Still hungry, Orbulon returns to the drive-through and orders a chili shake, experiencing brain freeze upon consumption. Yet to have his hunger satisfied, Orbulon goes through the drive-through again and orders ten Megaburgers. However, Danny notifies him that the burgers are sold out. Orbulon then warps away to a farm to grab a group ofLittle Hammies. This action makes up the intermission for Orbulon's stage, with successfully cleared microgames allowing Orbulon to abduct a Little Hammy and failed microgames allowing the pig to get away. Speed ups and level ups have Orbulon warp around, and running out of lives makes Orbulon sad before warping away. For the epilogue of his stage, Orbulon returns to the drive-through with a number of Little Hammies. Orbulon asks if Danny can "burger [the] hams for [him]". Saying that he is not a chef, Danny refuses and tells Orbulon to leave, which he does. As a reward for completing the Touch League, Orbulon gives theplayer a Little Hammy. After completing the stage, Orbulon says he and the Little Hammies ate mushrooms they recently picked.

Orbulon later goes on a potluck with Ashley, Red, Dribble, Spitz, 9-Volt, 18-Volt,5-Volt,Mike, andFronk. The whole group is referred to as the Potluck Gang. Orbulon brings radioactive carotene logs and joins everyone in playing a card game together. Playing the card game makes up the intermission for the Potluck Gang's stage, with Orbulon playing a card when his microgames are played. This intermission is the only point in the game where Orbulon is seen without the Oinker.

Orbulon is last seen in the game's ending, where he, alongside the rest of the WarioWare employees, attempts to convince Wario to split the money made evenly. Wario ultimately drops the money while trying to escape, so everyone splits the money amongst themselves and the player.

He shares his character trailer with Dribble and Spitz. In the video, they reenact the "Dreamy Drive" cutscene fromWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$! While riding in taxicab, Orbulon phases out of his disguise. Spitz sees this from the rear-view mirror and looks back only to see Orbulon's disguised form.

He also makes a minor cameo inMona's character trailer, where he is briefly seen behind Dribble and Spitz's taxi in the beginning when Mona is driving through Diamond City.

WarioWare: Get It Together![edit]

Orbulon with his collection of artifacts
Orbulon with his collection of artifacts

Orbulon appears inWarioWare: Get It Together! In the game's story mode, he appears in the opening cutscene, watching something on a small television. He, along with the rest of the WarioWare, Inc. employees, gets sucked in the game world due toWario's actions.

Orbulon appears in the intro of Wario's stage, where a giant Wario nose knocks him out as it hurtles toward Earth.

Orbulon's stage is the Culture stage, which is available afterKat & Ana's nature stage is completed. In the pre-stage cutscene, Wario, Kat, Ana, Mike, and Dr. Crygor hear a strange noise, and when Orbulon appears, he accidentally attracts them with hisOinker's tractor beam, and immediately apologizes. He then tries to remove the glitches caused by thegame bugs, to no avail. Upon Ana's mention of the game bugs, he proclaims that he will remove them with style.

In his stage's cutscene, Orbulon hosts a T.V. show titledAround the World with Orbulon. In the show, Orbulon travels around the world, abducting various artifacts. He steals goods fromGoro Desert,Takechiko City, andOhlaka Island. He also travels toWario's house, but leaves after seeing its unattractive appearance. He returns to the stage, dropping all of his stolen artifacts, calling them souvenirs for his friends. After his stage is cleared, Orbulon joins the gang, stating that once he has conquered the game bugs, he will then conquer the world.

In the pre-stage cutscene of Anything Goes, Orbulon notices the pervasive amount of corruption within the area. After beating theWario Bug, Orbulon notices the presence of theSupreme Developer, citing feelings of "confusion and excitement." Orbulon goes back to the real world alongside most of the other WarioWare, Inc. employees and chases after Wario after it is revealed their predicament was caused by his poor programming. However, they soon remember other people were left behind in the game world, and immediately return to rescue them.

As a playable character, Orbulon flies around in his Oinker withLeft Stick. Pressing and holdingA Button activates the Oinker's tractor beam, which can be used to destroy or suck up many obstacles. Because of the versatility of the tractor beam, Orbulon can complete microgames with ease, whether the game requires quick removal of objects (e.g.Apple Drop), or moving heavy objects efficiently (e.g.Seesaw Space Race). Sometimes, the tractor beam can be used to complete microgames in alternate ways such as inBurst Your Bottle (one of the 2 microgames considered a bad fit), where he must flip the bottle upside-down and suck up the cork. Despite these qualities, Orbulon is inefficient in making objects move downward or sideways, such as inRock-a-Bye, the other microgame considered a bad fit, requiring him to rock the cradle with his tractor beam and himself in tandem. Overall, Orbulon has 71 microgames that deems him a good fit (the most out of any character), and 103 games considered an above-average fit.

WarioWare: Move It![edit]

Orbulon's cutscene in WarioWare: Move It!
Orbulon eating fruit in his Oinker

InWarioWare: Move It!, Orbulon, alongside his fellowWarioWare, Inc. employees, joins Wario on the vacation he won toCaresaway Island.

In his stage, "Sweet Dreams, Sweeter Fruit", he is seen eating various fruits on his Oinker, making a mess on the ship. It gets angry and frantically shakes the mess off, accidentally dropping Orbulon off. Orbulon falls into a forest and lands on a statue ofthe Voice from above that theWoods Watchers happened to be worshiping, hitting his head so hard that he loses his memory. The Woods Watchers immediately notice the similarities between Orbulon and the Voice, and begin worshipping Orbulon and overstuffing him with fruits, which he goes along with. The Oinker watches and becomes concerned, and emits a signal into Orbulon's brain, causing tiny worker Orbulons inside to come out to work to restore his memories. Eventually, Orbulon remembers the time he spent with his Oinker, and finally gets his memories back. He apologizes to the Oinker and they go to hug each other before Orbulon slips a banana peel, landing flat on his face and losing his memories once again.

Orbulon startled by Lulu in his Oinker

Orbulon also appears in the cutscene for the Remix 1 stage, where he is seen sipping coconut juice before falling asleep, only to be woken up byLulu playing with his Oinker.

Orbulon, along with the rest of theWarioWare cast appear in the final stage, "Lava at First Sight", where they all dance to defeatVolcano Wario. After Wario is launched from the volcano, the cast enjoys their vacation, while Wario is stuck inside a temple.

InWarioWare: Move It!, Orbulon hosts anew set of microgames that primarily use the Lifter, Gift Giver, and Ba-KAW forms.

General information[edit]

Physical appearance[edit]

In every game in the series beforeWarioWare Gold, Orbulon is a tall, skinny, and white alien wearing black glasses with two shines on the left lens. He has a long antennae on his head. He wears a long, black cape that is fastened around his neck with a red medallion. He wears white boots that have spikes on the bottom. His mouth is cat-shaped and his tongue is blue.

Orbulon faced a severe redesign going intoGold. He is significantly shorter, and his antennae bends a little bit to the right. He is also a lot plumper. His red medallion has been changed to a golden one, and he no longer wears his boots, revealing his small feet. Another big change is that hisOinker has also been shrunk, and he sits in it almost everywhere he goes.

Orbulon has two different human disguises that he has shapeshifted into in order to get rides fromDribble & Spitz that are seen inWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$!, and his character trailer forWarioWare Gold. In hisMega Party Game$! disguise, he wears short red hair, black sunglasses, and a black tank top. In his character trailer disguise, he has short, light orange hair with the same glasses he wears in his natural form, white gloves, a white dress with a collar held by his gold medallion, and tall white boots. He also carries a grey briefcase. This same disguise is also shown in one of his unlockable artwork inWarioWare: Get It Together!, where it has small, white pearl earrings, which do not seem to appear in the character trailer.

Personality[edit]

Orbulon originally came toEarth in hopes of conquering it and invading it; however, after his ship crash landed inDiamond City and he metWario, he decided to settle down there and began to study and develop an interest in world culture. He nevertheless insists that he plans on invading the planet someday.

Orbulon often finds a way to get himself into trouble, as most of his cutscenes include something bad or unfortunate happen to him or hisOinker, which is shown to be quite an unreliable ship, as it very commonly breaks down or crashes.

Orbulon is shown to have a connection with pigs, as his spaceship looks like and is named after a pig, and through his interactions with theLittle Hammies inWarioWare Gold.

Orbulon is implied to sleep a lot (or take a lot of naps) as seen in several games. InWarioWare: Twisted!, Orbulon gets tired from steering his Oinker too much and gets a shoulder massage by the Alien Bunnies (with help from the player) and decides to take a nap afterwards. InWarioWare: D.I.Y, his Blender selection description says he wants a nap. InWarioWare Gold, his alarm clock description says that Orbulon is said to sleep at weeks at a time. InWarioWare: Get It Together!, Orbulon says "Mmm... sleepy time" when the player chooses to quit after getting aGame Over. InWarioWare: Move It!, in the intro cutscene for the Remix 1 stage, he is seen briefly sleeping before being abruptly woken up byLulu messing with his Oinker. On the official website for WarioWare, Inc., Orbulon states that he becomes very cranky if he gets less than 20 hours of sleep. As Orbulon is still learning human language such as English, he jumbles certain words and phrases, such as saying "Over is the game" and "The bad is mine". He also does not understand figure of speech, as shown when he thinks Gigantaburger's Megaburgers are made out of live pigs.

Relationships[edit]

  • Although his eyes are never fully seen in-game, one of his sprites reveals them to be indigo-colored. If the player tilts theGame Boy Advance rapidly when the Alien Bunny is massaging Orbulon's back inWarioWare: Twisted!, his glasses will fall and a little bit of his right indigo eye can be seen. The game's data reveals that his eyes are small and bean-shaped.[14]
  • Orbulon appears to have two different types of filters on his voice: beforeWarioWare Gold, his voice resembled a synthesizer sound, containing a musical pitch, whereas fromWarioWare Gold onward, his voice clips are multiplied and pitch-shifted.
  • In Japanese versions of the games, Orbulon's dialogue is written almost entirely in katakana.
