TheOcto-Army is an enemy faction inSuper Mario Galaxy andSuper Mario Galaxy 2, being made up of the various colorful alien octopodes in the two games such asOctoombas,Roctos, and their respective relatives. The former are treated as the weaker grunt-type troops that commonly appear as enemies throughout the games, and are named with 「タコ」(tako, "octopus") in the Japanese scripts. Meanwhile, the latter are larger and more powerful, being much rarer and including the leaders, and are named with「オタ」(ota, a corruption of "octo") in Japanese. Many of them are capable of spitting out rocks and other projectiles, a trait based on theOctoroks fromThe Legend of Zelda franchise. They are found in many places and are one of the alien groups affiliated withBowser's army in the games. Their name is stated in the titles of "Octo-Army Icy Rainbow Romp" and "Dark Octo-Army Romp" from the second game, where the objective is to defeat a group of Octoombas andOctoguys.

Twounused models in the data ofSuper Mario Galaxy are named in connection to the Octo-Army. The first, labeled "Ota Jack," appears as a mint green Rocto with short, cup-shaped legs. It is likely named in reference to theJack playing card in relation to King Kaliente being named "OtaKing" in Japanese and internally. The second one is labeled as "Octopus Queen," implying some sort of connection to King Kaliente. However, the model itself is of a largePiranha Plant, suggesting its appearance was retooled from the original intent of the character before being abandoned.
