AnON/OFF Switch (alternativelyON/OFF switch[1] orOn/Off Switch[2]), also known as anON Block,[3] anON/OFF Block,[4] or simply aSwitch,[5] is an object introduced inSuper Mario World.

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario World /Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2[edit]

ON/OFF Switches are objects inSuper Mario World andits reissue. One can be used byMario orLuigi either to change the path that aPulley Lift is traveling on or, in#4 Ludwig's Castle, to toggle the direction in which the falling ceiling is moving. The switches can be turned on or off by eitherjumping against them from below, whirlingCaped Mario's cape next to them, or throwing an object, such as aKoopa Shell, at them. Since the player can use the cape to activate ablock by hitting it multiple times in succession, toggling an ON/OFF Switch that way does not guarantee that it will end up in the state intended by the player. Apart from #4 Ludwig's Castle, ON/OFF Switches are mostly found in the levelsDonut Plains 3 (where they first appear) andWay Cool, where the switches are abundant. They are sometimes guarded by aFuzzy.

Super Mario Maker 2[edit]

ON/OFF Switches are objects inSuper Mario Maker 2. They are a usable course element. Compared to their original appearance inSuper Mario World, they have a more saturated red and blue color scheme in all game styles, and the "ON" and "OFF" now flash in every style except forSuper Mario 3D World. When hit, they can change the direction of Y-shapedtrack intersections, toggle the visibility of red and blueDotted-Line Blocks, change the direction of red or blue Conveyor Belts, and change the radius of light around objects in the night Ghost House and night Underwater course styles. In theSuper Mario 3D World game style, ON/OFF Switches can switch the state of red and blueSpike Blocks and activate or deactivateON/OFF Trampolines.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder[edit]

ON/OFF Switches are objects inSuper Mario Bros. Wonder. They retain their ability to activate Dotted-Line Blocks, switch the direction of tracks, and lower the radius of light around objects. They can also switch the direction that red and blueZip Tracks travel in, similarly to how they affectedConveyor Belts inSuper Mario Maker 2. All of these attributes are displayed prominently in the levelColor-Switch Dungeon.

Super Mario Party Jamboree[edit]

ON/OFF Switches reappear inSuper Mario Party Jamboree in the 1-vs.-3 minigameOn-Again, Off-Again, where the solo player attempts to use them to eliminate the team players by usingGrrrols. The ON/OFF Switches retain the same look from theSuper Mario 3D World style inSuper Mario Maker 2.
