Noshi,[1] orNossie,[2] is a species of one-hornedsauropods similar toApatosaurus first seen in theDino Dino Jungle course ofMario Kart: Double Dash!!, where the light blue one serves as one of the main obstacles of the course. While the Nintendo Official Guidebook and site ofMario Kart: Double Dash!! only use the term "Nossie" to refer to the light blue one,[3][4] internal data indicates that the red and yellow one found in the course are Nossies as well.[5] The species was never given a specific English name; it was originally referred to using the lowercase generic termsdino andbrontosaurus in the Prima and Nintendo Power guides ofMario Kart: Double Dash!!, respectively, and subsequently referred to using the lowercase termdinosaur in the Prima guide and internal data[6] ofMario Kart 7.[7]
History[edit]
Mario Kart series[edit]
Mario Kart: Double Dash!![edit]
Nossies first appear in theDino Dino Jungle track ofMario Kart: Double Dash!!. There the light blue one mainly acts as a hazard for the racers passing near it in the canyon, being able to stomp them with its feet. It can also be met when passing on the wooden bridge that crosses the canyon, where it is able to make the karts spin with its head. Additionally, two Nossies, one colored red and the other colored yellow, appear moving through the lake where the branching boardwalk lies. Unused textures for a purple and a light blue Nossies in the lake exist in the game's files, but they are never seen in-game[8]
Mario Kart 7[edit]
The light blue Nossie reappears in theGCN Dino Dino Jungle track ofMario Kart 7, in the same place where it is found in the original course. The main difference is that in this course, this Nossie stretches its neck, making it an obstacle for the drivers gliding above the wooden bridge.
Mario Kart Tour[edit]
The light blue Nossie, with its name now romanized as Noshi,[1] appears again inMario Kart Tour inGCN Dino Dino Jungle. Its role is mostly similar to itsMario Kart 7 appearance, but if a racer lands on it, they can perform aJump Boost. It also appears inN64 Koopa Troopa Beach T and R/T andGBA Riverside Park T and R/T, while multiple light blue Noshis appear inTokyo Blur R/T (likely referencing thekaiju).
Noshi was used as the landmark for theJungle Tour. It also appears on twobadges, one standard and one gold, both of which first being made available during theAnimal Tour, and on the logo for theDino Dino Outdoor & Camping Goods sponsor.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[edit]
While Noshi does not physically appear inMario Kart 8 Deluxe, artwork of Noshi is used on the logo for theDino Dino Outdoor & Camping Goods sponsor in theBooster Course Pass DLC.
