Nintendo Music is a mobile music streaming app published byNintendo on theApp Store andGoogle Play in 49 territories.[7] It allows users to play music from a variety of Nintendo games, including many from theSuper Mario franchise, with additional soundtracks added regularly over time. It features curated playlists based on specific characters and themes, with users also able to create and share their own playlists. The app also features options to filter music from certain games in order to avoid spoilers, and the "Extend to..." feature, which allows the length of certain tracks to be extended to 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes. The service is available exclusively to subscribers ofNintendo Switch Online.
Super Mario soundtracks[edit]
The app's search screen shows a list of all of the included games, which can be sorted by the platform they were released for, the year they were released, or how recently they were added to the service. The app uses the first release of a game in any territory for its year of release. There is also a section listing games on the app that the user has played onNintendo Switch (including via theNintendo Switch Online service),Wii U, andNintendo 3DS.[8]
Most soundtracks on the app only have track names in American English and Japanese, with all other languages using the American English names (even if an official translation exists in other sources). The onlySuper Mario soundtracks to currently display tracks in additional languages areMario Kart 7 andMario Kart 8 Deluxe. In contrast, game titles and playlists do consistently use their official localized names for each language. Likewise, cover images for games and playlists as well as images for tracks tend to feature box art and game screenshots from the American English releases of games when applicable. While the covers for most games and playlists, along with a small selection of track images, are distinct when using Japanese, other languages tend to only feature different covers when there is a notable difference in naming (such asStreetPass Mii Plaza having a different title in most languages, and theWii'sCheck Mii Out Channel being titled the Mii Contest Channel in European regions). Regardless of what language the app is set to, typing either the European or American English names of games, tracks, or playlists in the search function will bring up matching results (for example, the track "3DS Rock Rock Mountain" fromMario Kart 8 Deluxe appears even if the user searches for "3DS Alpine Pass").
Soundtracks marked with an asterisk (*) are non-Super Mario games that contain themes originating from theSuper Mario franchise, while soundtracks inbold are redirects to another existing soundtrack. Release dates are according to North American time.[9]

Special releases[edit]
A "special release" is a collection of tracks from a game that are included in a playlist rather than a soundtrack. They contain only a few tracks, and can only be found in the main page's "Special release" and "Recent highlights" sections. As they do not have proper soundtrack pages, they contain no additional playlists such as "Top tracks" or "Extended-Playback Collection", despite some tracks supporting the "Extend to..." feature.

Tracks[edit]
Most tracks on the app have an accompanying image, usually a screenshot of an instant where that specific music would play. Certain tracks, such as those which are exclusive to media outside of the game (such as promotional material orsoundtrack releases), tracks related to scenes containing notable spoilers from certain games, or tracks which otherwise do not play during normal gameplay, instead display the game's cover artwork. Game screenshots are displayed with a white border around them, giving them a resemblance to photographs.
The following non–Super Mario games feature images with elements from theSuper Mario franchise:
- Tennis:Mario can be seen as the referee in the images for the tracks "Game Win A", "Game Win B", "Set Win", "Set Loss", and "Victory Cup BGM", along with the game's banner image.
- Tetris (NES): Mario,Luigi,Princess Peach,Donkey Kong, andBowser can be seen on the image for the track "Ending". This image is also shown on this game's "Extended-Playback Collection" playlist cover.
- Tetris (Game Boy): Both Mario and Luigi appear in images for tracks related to the game's 2 Player Mode.
- F-Zero X:Rainbow Road, a recreation ofN64 Rainbow Road inF-Zero X, appears in the image for the track "Rainbow Road".
- Pilotwings 64: Mario andWario's faces appear replacingGeorge Washington's face on Mount Rushmore in the images for the tracks "Cannonball" and "Cannonball: Missed", respectively.
- Wii Channels: A set of images for tracks from theCheck Mii Out Channel showcases a contest with a "Mario" theme that featuresMiis with varying resemblance to Mario. One of these images appears on the cover for the "Check Mii Out Channel" playlist.
- StreetPass Mii Plaza:Miis wearingSuper Mario-themed hats appear in track images, as well as on this game's banner image. Some of these images also appear on certain playlist covers. A piece of thePuzzle Swap puzzle forNew Super Mario Bros. Wii appears in the image for the track "Collected Pieces (Puzzle Swap)".
- Pikmin 4: TheCookie of Nibbled Circles,Cookie of Prosperity,Vanishing Cookie,Love's Fortune Cookie andHearty Container, treasures based onYoshi Cookies, all appear in the image for the track "Field Guides". Some also appear in images for tracks related toDandori Challenges, one of which is shown on the cover for the "Dandori" playlist.
Playlists[edit]
Nintendo Music features various pre-made playlists curated by Nintendo that contain tracks from multiple games. These include general themed ones such as "Walking", "Party", and "Winter", whose track order changes daily, as well as ones based on Nintendo characters, such as those from theSuper Mario franchise.
Each soundtrack contains an "All tracks" playlist representing each game's overall tracklist and a "Top tracks" playlist containing a curated selection of tracks (both playlists' titles' initials are capitalized in Europe and Oceania). Additionally, each game has a playlist titled "Extended-Playback Collection" ("Extended Playback Collection" in Europe and Oceania) that contains every track supporting the "Extend to..." feature, in the same order as the "All tracks" playlist. Every Extended-Playback Collection playlist has a description that reads:
A curated playlist of tracks that support the Extend to... feature. Tap the extended-playback icon to extend the length of these tracks. Studying? Working hard? Really love that one track? Give it a try! *Some device behaviors affect this feature. You may notice an occasional distortion in your audio.
In Europe and Oceania, it instead reads the following:

Most soundtracks also have other pre-made playlists containing tracks in their game that are related to each other. For example, bothSuper Mario Bros. 3 andNew Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe contain "Courses" playlists, which include music that can be heard in courses within their respective games. These playlists (along with the "Top tracks" playlist) may have their tracks in a different order to the "All tracks" playlist. On the home page, the "Find your favorites" ("Rediscover Classics" in Europe and Oceania) section contains "Top tracks" playlists from various games, while the "Extend your enjoyment" section contains Extended-Playback Collection playlists from various games.
Up to three tracks per game (barring special cases such as including both the English and Japanese versions of a track) are designated "selects" by the app, as denoted by their inclusion in a set of "Selects" playlists. The Nintendo Music Selects playlist features tracks from most games on the service, the Mario Series Selects playlist features tracks from specificSuper Mario games, and the NES Selects and Nintendo Switch Selects playlists feature tracks from all games belonging to those systems (not including redirects). All of these playlists have an order that changes daily.

- Though the app's pages for games use the names "NES" and "Super NES" to refer to those systems, the full "Nintendo Entertainment System" and "Super Nintendo Entertainment System" names are used in the "Details" section of game pages and on the app's search screen.
- "Jump Up, Super Star!" fromSuper Mario Odyssey is the onlySuper Mario track on the app that is labeled as selects but is not labeled as a top track for its game, as a different version of the song, "Jump Up, Super Star! - New Donk City Festival", appears as a top track forSuper Mario Odyssey instead.
- Mario Kart 7,Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, andNew Super Mario Bros. are the onlySuper Mario games on the app whose pages do not have a link to information on Nintendo's website regarding how to play them onNintendo Switch and/orNintendo Switch 2.
