Nids, also known asSpringin' Spiders,[1] are large jumping spiders encountered in the hollow tree stages ofDonkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and in itsGame Boy sequelDonkey Kong Land III. They act as bouncing platforms and have a plank of wood on them forDixie andKiddy to sit on. LikeArich, Nid's name is derived from "arachnid", a real world class in which spiders belong in.
History[edit]
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble![edit]
InDonkey Kong Country 3, Nids only appear in two levels ofKremwood Forest,Barrel Shield Bust-Up andSpringin' Spiders. Only one Nid appears in Barrel Shield Bust-Up, while Nids appear throughout Springin' Spiders. They either hop up and down in a fixed, vertical position or in an arc pattern. Nids appear in yellow and pink variations, with the yellow ones jumping around nonstop while the pink Nids only jump while being sat on. Dixie and Kiddy are usually required to be on a Nid so that it can carry them up to a higher part of the level. Nids cannot hurt the Kongs directly, but they may jump towards certain hazards such asBuzzes. Despite that, Nids can break carried barrels if they come into contact with them.
Nids are categorized under the "Terrorfirma Tuff Guys" enemy class inDixie Kong's Photo Album. Despite this classification, Nids do not injure theKongs and are closer in behavior toAnimal Friends.
Donkey Kong Land III[edit]
Nids reappear inDonkey Kong Land III. Because it was released on theGame Boy, Nids do not have color variants, but their behavior is shared with the pink Nids fromDonkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. Nids appear under the "Baddies" group in the end credits.
