Neville, the Bookish Father, is the firstportrait ghost whomLuigi encounters inLuigi's Mansion and itsNintendo 3DS version. Neville is tall and lean with light blue skin. He has an oval-shaped head, yellow-green eyes, red hair and eyebrows, and a red pointed mustache. He wears a deep blue robe. Neville is the husband ofLydia and father ofChauncey and the twinsHenry and Orville. Neville's portrait number in theGallery is 1.
Neville can be found in theStudy during Area 1, doing his usual activity of reading a book while sitting in a rocking chair. The book that Neville reads is titled "Mario Story", the Japanese name ofPaper Mario. Neville does not attack, though there is a book in the Study that flies after Luigi. Neville occasionally yawns and stretches, leaving him open to being stunned by theflashlight and being vacuumed into thePoltergust 3000. Upon defeat, aTreasure Chest appears in the Study, containing thekey to theMaster Bedroom.

The player can read Neville's Big Baby Care Diary in the bookshelf behind Neville's rocking chair. The diary provides the player with hints on how to win Henry and Orville's game of hide and seek.
