AMystery is an item found inPaper Mario,Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, andSuper Paper Mario.

The first appearance of the Mystery inPaper Mario goes under the nameMystery? When used in battle, a roulette will appear, containing the following items, that will be used right after the roulette stops on an item:
Mysteries? can also be used for cooking, yielding aMistake half the time, and a randomly selected one of twenty-three recipes otherwise.
Throughout the game, Mysteries? can be found in the following locations:
- In ahidden block in the north of the Shy Guy Playground in the blue area ofShy Guy's Toy Box.
- In a hidden block on the beach ofLavalava Island.
- On a platform in the third lava/moving platform area inBowser's Castle.
- On sale for 1 coin each atBoo's Shop.
- On sale for 5 coins each at theStorehouse.
- Dropped by enemies such asGroove Guys andDuplighosts.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]
InPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, a Mystery is sold for threecoins atPungent's Great Tree Shop and theSales Stall. One Mystery can also be found in a bush in near the bridge inPetal Meadows. Items marked with a only appear in the GameCube version.
When used in battle, a Mystery has the effect of one of the following items:

If it is cooked by itself or with any other item, it makes aMistake half the time, and otherwise a random one of twenty items, mostlycooking recipes.
Super Paper Mario[edit]
Mysteries appear under their nameMystery Boxes inSuper Paper Mario. When cooked, the outcome can be random, or more commonly, aMistake. However, the set recipe is aMiracle Dinner. The Mystery Box can be bought inFlipside Arcade for fiveFlipside Tokens, at theDowntown of Crag for three coins, or carried by aLakitu. Similar toPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, a roulette will cycle through a random selection of various items, and the item chosen is subsequently used.
A Mystery Box can contain one of the following items:
