This article is about the status effect fromSuper Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. For the regular Mushroom item found in various other games, seeMushroom.

Mushroom is a mostly negative status effect featured in theSuper Mario franchise. It makes its only appearance so far during the events ofSuper Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, where it is one of two status effects that changes the form of its victim, the other beingScarecrow. IfMario or one of his allies gets affected by this status effect, they transform into a pudgy Mushroom of a specific color (depending on who gets transformed). While in Mushroom form, a character recovers a small amount ofHP every turn, but otherwise is forced into a Defend command, effectively completely petrified from doing anything but receiving halved damage until the effect wears off or the character's status is restored. Mario and his friends can get affected by this status effect when they are hit by an attack likePetal Blast. It can be completely evaded if a character wears a status effect negating accessory like aTrueform Pin or aSafety Badge.

Notes[edit]

Mallow is the only character to have an unmatching color for their Mushroom form, having a burgundy hood. This color is most likely chosen because Mallow's most notable color, yellow, is already used for the stem (which typically matches with the affected character's skin color), and his second most notable colors, pink and blue, are already being used by Toadstool and Geno, respectively. His third notable color, white, would most likely blend in with the spots on the mushroom's hood. Burgundy in specific matches closest with Mallow's pink hair and shoes.
