Mumsies[1] (singular:Mumsy)[2] are mummy enemies inSuper Mario Bros. Wonder.
They are enwrapped in loose cloth that bundles on their head at varying heights, making them visually comparable toTrompettes. Grabbing and pulling the end of the cloth unfurls them until they are ultimately defeated. The height of their bundles determines how long and far the player needs to pull the cloth. If they stop midway, Mumsies resume their prior behavior partially unfurled, sometimes exposing that the interior of bodies are empty cavities. There are otherwise only limited ways to defeat Mumsies. The player character bounces of a Mumsy if they try to stomp it, and they are impervious to tossedfireballs or normalGround Pounds. They can be defeated by the player character in theirDrill form, other enemies, or by crushing platforms.
Mumsies largely only occur in ruin-themed courses and are first encountered in theSunbaked Desert, where they occur inThe Desert Mystery andKO Arena Sunbaked Skirmish. The also occur in the affiliatedSpecial World courseSunbaked Desert Special Pole Block Allure. They otherwise are found inAnother Uncharted Area: Swaying Ruins, a course in theFungi Mines. Apparently, the true identity of Mumsies is unknown, but they are thought to be related to Trompettes due to the similar shape of its head.[2]

Naming[edit]
Mumsies' English name is attributed to "mummy",[2] but it potentially also derives from "clumsy", a term for being awkward in movement.
