Mummipokey[1] is the boss ofWorld 2 inNew Super Mario Bros., being fought inWorld 2-Castle. It is a mummified mix between aPokey and a worm with red spikes, along with a bear trap-like jaw. During battle, Mummipokey attacks by popping out of the ground in various places and by spitting projectile balls. The height of how far Mummipokey protrudes ranges from two to five segments, including the head. The time it stays surfaced is dependent on its size: The more segments it exposes at once, the longer it stays surfaced. Mummipokey can be damaged fromMario orLuigi jumping onto its head. Alternatively, Mummipokey can beground-pounded, dealing the amount of damage equivalent tojumping on it twice, or havefireballs shot at it. While Mario or Luigi is in hisMini form, ground-pounding is the only way he can hurt Mummipokey, and it does not deal double damage like in regular form. Mummipokey can be defeated either from being jumped on thrice, from being ground-pounded twice (or thrice while Mario or Luigi is in his Mini form), from being hit with 15 fireballs, or from using aMega Mushroom. Defeating Mummipokey unlocksWorld 3, orWorld 4 if Mario or Luigi is in his Mini form.
