Moonsnakes[1] are primitiveStreptococcus-like enemies that appear inSuper Mario Odyssey. They have a similar appearance and behavior to theSpike Bar obstacles seen in other games; however, they appear to be made out of segments of rolling rock instead of metal and have a base made out ofMoon Rock. Because of their design, they are able to warp and fit their shape to the uneven terrain they can usually be seen rolling across. They come in different lengths, and some have more than one set on a base. Some Moonsnakes are also able to move back and forth in a set path. They appear in theSeaside Kingdom, in theSnow Kingdom, in theMoon Kingdom, in theMushroom Kingdom, on theDark Side, and on theDarker Side. They cannot be defeated by any means. The brochure for the Moon Kingdom refers to the ones found in the Moon Kingdom and Seaside Kingdom as separate but similar species, and speculates that lunar creatures such as them may be the evolutionary origin of all life on Earth.
Names in other languages[edit]
The contemporaneous name for each language is listed first. If a name is untranslated from English but appears in a source with a localized alternative that is prioritized in the body text, it is assumed to be an oversight and is treated secondarily.
