Moogles are a species originating from theFinal Fantasy series made bySquare Enix. They have appeared in almost allFinal Fantasy games and have since become a series mascot. The first appearance of a Moogle in theSuper Mario franchise is inMario Hoops 3-on-3, which was developed by Square Enix. In this game, a Moogle appears as one of five playable characters from theFinal Fantasy series, the others beingNinja,Black Mage,White Mage, andCactuar. Moogle is unlocked by earning a silver trophy in theStar Tourney on the Normal difficulty.

Moogle, along with the otherFinal Fantasy characters, returns in the gameMario Sports Mix, where it is classified as a Tricky character (like inMario Hoops 3-on-3). It is unlocked by beating the Mushroom Cup Tournament of any sport. Moogle's power in this game is very weak, and its speed is below average, but it makes up for those weaknesses with a high technique stat. However, unlike most characters with high technique attributes, Moogle's full power throws do not have a curve added to them.

Moogle's design in theSuper Mario franchise appears to be a mix between its recurring design starting fromFinal Fantasy III and its bigger, puffier-eared one fromFinal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. A Moogle with a similar design, apart from differently colored wings, appears as the logo for the "Moogleworks" shop inFinal Fantasy XIII.

InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, a Moogle appears alongside aChocobo as a neutral, primary spirit. They are included in theSpirit Board for Challenger Pack 8, with theirspirit artwork taken fromFinal Fantasy VII Remake. Its representative fighter in the spirit battle is a grayKirby. When equipped, the spirit increases a fighter's speed.
