“Ameteorite! You canground-pound it tobreak down the door!”
Luma,Super Mario Galaxy 2

Meteorites appear inSuper Mario Galaxy 2 as objects thatMario (orLuigi) can launch at targets. These round meteorites are gold and have theGround-Pound Switch symbol on them. The symbol on the meteorites is not emblazoned to the rocks themselves and therefore can move if the target moves (it always faces away from the target). Meteorites are located inBowser's Lava Lair,Bowser's Gravity Gauntlet, andBowser's Galaxy Generator. A meteorite can be used byjumping into the air near one, automatically attracting the player character via its gravitational pull. A meteorite can be launched toward a target if Mario performs aGround Pound on it from a certain position. The first time meteorites are used is to break apart large stone locks blocking the way through giant doors in severalBowser levels. Meteorites are actually used during battles against Bowser to attack him. After taking four hits from a meteor, or eight hits in the final battle, Bowser is defeated. If a meteorite is not ground-pounded by Mario quickly enough during a Bowser battle, it will lose its golden color and turn black, after which it will crumble and disappear.
