"Metal-Head Mario Can Move!" is the thirdmission of theHazy Maze Cave inSuper Mario 64 andSuper Mario 64 DS, though it is renamed "Metal-Head Wario Can Move" in the latter due toWario being the only one who can turnmetal. The mission involves using the Metal power-up to activate aPurple Switch underwater. The mission's name is a reference to the term "metalhead".
Layout[edit]
From the start of thelevel, the player has to take the path on the left and make their way to the Underground Lake, like in thefirst mission. Once the player reaches the cavern, they need to hit thegreen block (or a red one as Wario in the DS version) to turn into Metal form. Once the player has turned to metal, they need to quickly follow the path into and under thewater that leads to a Purple Switch (although the switch can be pressed with a well-timedSide Somersault into aPound the Ground attack orTriple Jump).[1] Pressing the switch opens the nearby gate blocking the door into the Abandoned Mine. ThePower Star rests at the end of the mine, and the player needs to do a couple ofLong Jumps to cross the gaps to reach it. Alternatively,Luigi canbackward-somersault to reach the end of the mine,Mario canwall-kick to get there, andYoshi canflutter-kick to get there.
