Mega Blocks, also known asBig Blocks,[1] are largeBrick Blocks. They are often tougher than regular Brick Blocks, requiring a number of hits to destroy or being indestructible altogether. However, in some games, namely 2DSuper Mario titles, they act like their smaller counterparts.
History[edit]
Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario Bros. 3 /Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]
Big Blocks first appear inSuper Mario Bros. 3 anditsremakes, where they are only found inGiant Land. They are two times bigger than normal Brick Blocks; in spite of their size, they can be destroyed as any other Brick Block bySuper Mario or a regularKoopa Shell. Exclusively inSuper Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, they can also be broken by tail-whipping them asRaccoon orTanooki Mario.
Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
They reappear inSuper Mario Galaxy 2. However, unlike inSuper Mario Bros. 3, these Big Blocks are indestructible (as they are too big) and act as platforms rather than Brick Blocks. These are found only inSupermassive Galaxy.
New Super Mario Bros. U /New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]
These blocks reappear inNew Super Mario Bros. U, working as they did inSuper Mario Bros. 3, as they are able to be destroyed by Super Mario or Koopa Shells. They are found only inSoda Jungle andWorld
Coin-8. InBridge over Poisoned Waters, one Big Block acts as aCoin Block; this block breaks and releases fivecoins upon being used up instead of turning into anEmpty Block.
Super Mario 3D World /Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]
Big Blocks return inSuper Mario 3D World andSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, where they are four times bigger than a normal Brick Block. They can be destroyed by jumping beneath them and/or tail-whipping them five times,ground-pounding them inSuper form or better, using aMega Mushroom, or hitting a nearbyPOW Block. They only appear inSuper Block Land. Gray variants of Big Blocks known asRock Blocks also appear, which are slightly smaller but much stronger. These blocks can only be destroyed byMega Mario,Cannon Boxes, orBob-omb explosions.
Super Mario Run[edit]
Mega Blocks appear under their current name inSuper Mario Run, where they arebuildings in the Kingdom Builder mode. There are two buildings with Mega Blocks: a "Mega Block" building that consists of a single Mega Block, and a Mega Blocks building that consists of two Mega Blocks stacked one on top of the other. Both are ranked 3★ and take up a 2x2 space. Their descriptions note the blocks as obstructions.
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[edit]
Big Blocks reappear inMario & Luigi: Paper Jam in theSafe by a Sandslide mission. They only require a single hammer hit to destroy.
Paper Mario series[edit]
Paper Mario: Color Splash[edit]
Big Blocks return inPaper Mario: Color Splash inMondo Woods. They are normal Brick Blocks that were enchanted byKamek. Big Blocks cannot be broken unless they are colored. They also appear in theViolet Passage in the coin segment, where they can be destroyed byCannonballs, and in theMustard Café, where one blocks the orangeWarp Pipe leading to the surface at the end of the underground caves.
Paper Mario: The Origami King[edit]
Mega Blocks appear inPaper Mario: The Origami King, working like they did inSuper Mario 3D World. They come in two sizes: twice as big (which take three hits to destroy) and even bigger (which take seven hits to break); successful hammerAction Commands lessen the amount of hits needed to break them. They appear during theTrial of Power onDiamond Island.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle[edit]
Mega Blocks also appear inMario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, as the most basic form of cover in the game. They normally take three hits to destroy, but some weapons may destroy them instantly.
