Matt is a character and the former roommate ofTommy Treehugger, appearing in theClub Mario segment forThe Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Mario and the Beanstalk." During the "Are You Bogus?" segment of the segment, he appears as the guest of the segment, posing as American singer-songwriter and actressDebbie Gibson. According to Tommy, he wants to be an actor and figured he could boost his career by appear on his andCo-MC's show.
During "Are You Bogus?", Matt, dressed as Gibson, is sitting on the couch atClub Mario with Tommy, who explains that he feels a little nervous before introducing him to his and Co-MC's show. "Gibson" explains that "she" feels good to be on their show, with Tommy remarking that "she" looks much taller than "she" appears in "her" videos. "Gibson" explains that "she" has been working on "her" height. Tommy then remarks that "she" appears very large, as though "she" was working out, and asks whether "she" has been using steroids. "Gibson" explains that "she" has been using some steroids to see the adverse effects it has on female singers. Tommy then praises "her" as a wonderful singer, asking "her" to sing a little song for him and Co-MC, with the latter showing disbelief that "she" is Gibson. "Gibson" then begins singing, "Only in My Dreams," Gibson's debut song, quite poorly. As Tommy complements "Gibson"'s singing, Co-MC explains that "Gibson" is actually a boy. "Gibson," insulted, threatens to punch Co-MC. Tommy, while intially surprised by this revelation, removes "Gibson"'s headband, revealing him to be aspiring actor Matt, his old roommate. He then asks Matt to leave, which he promptly does, with him expressing irritation with his true identity having been revealed.
