Magical Potions,[1] also calledMagic Potions[2][3][4] (also lowercase)[5] or simplyPotions,[6] areitems inSuper Mario Bros. 2, each resembling a flask with a bubbling liquid inside. They replaced theMagic Lamps fromYume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic.

Magical Potions inSuper Mario Bros. 2 can be picked up and thrown to the ground to create a temporarydoor from which the player character can enterSubspace. Magical Potions cannot create doors within ajar, over another door, or on unstable surfaces likequicksand.

BS Super Mario USA[edit]

Magical Potions are items inBS Super Mario USA. They are necessary to findWart in one of Subspace's jars as he is always hidden in these dimensions.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show![edit]

A Magical Potion is sometimes pulled out byKing Koopa at the end of an episode inThe Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, usually when he is outmatched byMario's group, in episodes such as "Bad Rap" and "Mario Meets Koop-zilla" and throws it, creating aWarp Zone for him to escape. The episode "Princess, I Shrunk the Mario Brothers" introduces two types of potions called theMagic Shrink Potion andMagic Growing Potion.

A Magical Potion has appeared involume 8 ofSuper Mario-kun briefly, whereLuigi tries to give it to Mario to try to help him defeatTryclyde.Toad has also used the Magical Potion in a fight with Wart. He enters the door the potion creates and then gives power-ups to aid Mario, Luigi, andYoshi during the fight, includingSuper Leaves,P-Wings, andFrog Suits.

Nintendo Adventure Books[edit]

InDoors to Doom, when Mario and Luigi escape a stampede ofNinjis by jumping off a cliff while using a parasol to safely float down, they decide to escape by revealing a bottle of Magic Potion from a tuft of grass. However, this particular bottle of potion creates a door that has a lock displaying a shoelace puzzle on it. Mario and Luigi must solve the puzzle and push the correct button in order to escape the area; pushing the incorrect button makes the door lead them to an encounter where they get shot point-blank by aShy Guy riding anAutobomb, leading to aGame Over.

  • European instruction booklet: "If you pick up a magic potion and toss it down, a door to Subspace will appear. Press+Control Pad up to enter the doorway. In Subspace, the grass you pull up will sometimes produce coins, and depending on where you open the doorway, 1-Up Mushrooms may also appear."
