Luvbi,Super Paper Mario

Luvbi is aNimbi inSuper Paper Mario. She was believed to be the daughter ofQueen Jaydes andGrambi, but she is actually the whitePure Heart, transformed into a Nimbi for its protection. In Chapter 7-4, she learns of her true nature, assuming her true form in order to save all worlds fromthe Void. After the defeat ofSuper Dimentio, she can be seen again in the Overthere, having apparently returned to life.

History[edit]

Background[edit]

Prior to the events of the game, and shortly after having met through work,Queen Jaydes andGrambi were entrusted with the whitePure Heart. In order to protect it from evil, the two decided to transform the Pure Heart into a shape no one would suspect; a Nimbi child. This child, named Luvbi, was then raised and loved as if their own daughter. Luvbi's parents show a strong affection for her, with Grambi staying at Luvbi's bedside when she was ill, and Jaydes becoming nervous when unsure of Luvbi's safety. Luvbi developed mixed feelings about her parents, finding them overprotective and describing Jaydes as nagging, and Grambi as angry. However, as she admits, she loves them as well, and wanted to make them happy.

Super Paper Mario[edit]

Meeting Luvbi in Super Paper Mario
Luvbi's first appearance is in The Underwhere.

Luvbi is first seen atop a pipe inthe Underwhere, fantasizing about finding her true love, a "prince of fair countenance". The moment is interrupted byMario, who is called an "old, mustachioed fatty", and asked to leave. Asked to find her by Jaydes, he andLuigi soon return. Interested in confirming if one of them is her prince, she asks them her name. If the correct answer is given, she becomes aghast, refusing to believe either could be her prince. She makes for Jaydes's palace, being told that the brothers were sent to fetch her. When they arrive, she angrily calls them liars, and is forced to apologize by Jaydes.

Mario and Luigi are returned toFlipside by Jaydes, with the Pure Heart brought to her by Mario now restored. By the time of their return to the Underwhere, Luvbi has packed for her journey tothe Overthere. Upon their return,Tippi and the otherPixls in tow, they are asked by Jaydes to escort Luvbi, protecting her from monster attacked on theUnderwhere Road in the wake ofBonechill's release. Luvbi is unhappy about this, and as they travel along the Underwhere Road, she repeatedly complains about them not being her princes, but accompanies them begrudgingly.

Climbing up Underwhere Road, the heroes encounterBowser, who fights them to be told ofPrincess Peach's whereabouts, and theDorguys, the third of whom summons theUnderchomp. On theOverthere Stair, Peach is found, sleeping deeply after eating aGolden Apple. Luvbi realizes that she can be woken with a "taboo fruit", but is too irritated with Princess Peach to help search for one.

The heroes find that the Overthere is being attacked by Bonechill's forces, in search of the Pure Heart. They make their way to Grambi's shrine, freeing frozen Nimbis, repairing the bridge there, and instigating a battle between Bonechill's forces and an army of Nimbis. Inside the shrine are Grambi and Bonechill, who reveals the truth about Luvbi's origin. Shocked by the revelation, she heeds Tippi's request to take her father outside.

Luvbi as a Pure Heart

When Bonechill is defeated, Luvbi and Grambi return to the shrine. Soon, Jaydes enters; having not heard word of Luvbi's safe arrival, she grew concerned, and went to the Overthere herself. Luvbi asks her parents about the truth of what she was told by Bonechill, which they then confess to her. Her memories as a Pure Heart are jogged by the explanation, and her Nimbi disguise begins to fade as the Pure Heart strains against its Nimbi form. She reacts with anger and disbelief that she's meant to be with Mario, calling both Jaydes and Grambi fake parents, expressing frustration at not being able to properly enjoy her short life, and telling her parents that she hates them. When Grambi and Jaydes re-affirm their love for her as their daughter, she eventually calms, and accepts her duty. Urging the heroes to save the worlds, and sharing her love for her parents, she becomes the eighth and final Pure Heart obtained by the heroes.

AfterSuper Dimentio is defeated, Luvbi can be found with her parents inside Grambi's shrine, revived by means unknown.

Personality and traits[edit]

Luvbi speaks inEarly Modern English (as do all Nimbis), although in the Japanese version, she talks very childishly instead of formally. While she is highly impulsive, and enjoys insulting or teasing others, she is also good-natured, caring deeply for her parents however overprotective they may be.
