Luigi Logic is a special ability exclusive toLuigi inMario & Luigi: Brothership. It involves him thinking up beneficial solutions using his unique mind which allows him andMario to solve overworld puzzles; it can also have him move on his own with the use of theL Button button. This ability is also available during boss battles by interacting with background elements which can advantageously be used against a boss, which usually results in stunning the boss for a turn and causing all attacks to deal critical damage. Luigi Logic cannot be used if either Bro. isKO'd or inflicted withGlohm.[1][2] Despite its description stating that Luigi Logic always requires Mario's cooperation, some of them do not involve him at all. The mechanic is comparable to theLuiginary Works fromMario & Luigi: Dream Team.

It is later revealed that theGreat Conductor is the one who gave Luigi the Luigi Logic ability seeing the potential hidden in Luigi.

Instances[edit]

Field[edit]

  • Rumbla Island has a gate that Luigi can squeeze through after Mario opens some gaps in the door. Luigi uses this to get to the other side of the gate, where there is a button that can be pressed to open the gate.
  • Luigi Logic can be used to have Luigi automatically perform solo actions such as uprooting Plug Radishes, breaking boxes with his hammer, and collectingSprite Bulbs.
  • Luigi can stand on one side of a seesaw while Mario must jump onto the other side to launch him.
  • Luigi picks up objects and puts them down through Luigi Logic.
  • Luigi Logic is used when learningUFO Spin,Bro Ball, andUFO Vacuum.
  • On numbered panel puzzles, Luigi automatically moves between the green panels while Mario must reach the red panels either before or after Luigi reaches his.
  • Luigi Logic can be used to reach handles that are too high to reach with a normal jump.
  • OnDesolatt Island, Luigi pushesEllow out of a gap he is stuck in from behind.
  • OnAllsand Island, Luigi hangs from a tree branch to distract theSharkbones while Mario retrieves theStickem Oil.
  • In the Color-Full Sea and Brrrning Sea Great Lighthouse Islands, Luigi can wear a barrel to block guards' spotlights or distract them with a jump.
  • While finding a way toWayaway Island, Luigi comes up with the idea to disguise themselves onOffandon Island.
  • Luigi has a Luigi Logic flash when the Great Conductor reveals his role in granting the ability.
  • OnJellyfish Island, Luigi thinks of making jellyfish pizza forAdaphne.
  • When Mario and Luigi are separated inFortress Zokket, Luigi thinks of using theTransmitter Blocks to communicate with Mario.
  • While being chased by a boulder in a cave onSkorcheen Island, Luigi jumps to the path across a lava pit to pick up Bomb Buds and throw to Mario to clear away rocks on his side.

Boss battles[edit]

  • During the battle againstGorumbla and theGlohm Gorumbla rematch, a sculpture to the north can be targeted with Luigi Logic. Luigi can grab the sculpture to fling the boulder at the boss, who sends it at Mario. Mario must then use his hammer to stop the boulder before Luigi sends it at Gorumbla with his own. If successful, Gorumbla will be stunned for a turn with his defense lowered.[3]
  • There is a vent to the north of the arena whereGobblick is fought, and its tongue can be grabbed to throw him into the vents. If successful, Gobblick will be stunned for several turns and its defense will lower until the effect wears off.[3]
  • Mega Snaptor can use an attack that sends tornadoes at Mario and Luigi. Once the attack is finished, water pipes near a water tower in the background will begin rotating. Luigi can then align the pipes so they meet the end of the connection. Finally, Luigi opens the valve to the pump at the end, sending a torrent of water that sends Mega Snaptor into the ground. This allows Mega Snaptor to be targeted with ground attacks for several turns, as well as lowering its defense during that timeframe. This is the first boss Luigi Logic to not involve Mario whatsoever.
  • WhenSharpcask is fought, it can sometimes retreat into its shell and heal. It will stay in this state indefinitely, forcing the player to use Luigi Logic. Using Luigi Logic lets Luigi manipulate the conveyor belt to position the monster underneath falling crates to stun it for several turns. As with the first three examples, Sharpcask's defense lowers until its stun wears off.[4]
  • During the battle against thePipegunk,Shun can use his remote to shift the arena to a hot area or a cold area, giving the monster power. However, Luigi can mug him for the remote. If Luigi succeeds with his theft, Shun gets tossed into the lava/freezing water, being unable to assist his bioweapon for several turns, and Luigi is free to shift the battle to a different environment. If Luigi shifts it to the opposite temperature environment, the Pipegunk will be stunned and take more damage than normal.[5]
  • During the battle againstGlohm Bowser, aShy Guy Airtub will sometimes fly in. With Luigi Logic, Luigi can hijack the Airtub and Mario will jump on as well. They will then fly away, with Bowser flying after them. Luigi can then fire cannonballs at Bowser to deal damage and move left and right to avoid Bowser's attacks. After some time, the Airtub will fall back down to the ground. If the Airtub is hit by an attack, it will crash and the Luigi Logic will end. If Luigi attempts to use Luigi Logic when Bowser is not calmed, he will destroy the Airtub before the bros. can fly away, canceling the Luigi Logic. The Luigi Logic can only be used twice, as there will be no more Shy Guy Airtubs after that.
  • The fight withWeeping Reclusa has a mandatory Luigi Logic segment to progress the boss battle. OnceSnoutlet is freed from one of theDoom Blooms, Luigi can initiate a segment where the two brothers ride on a magic plug up Weeping Reclusa's body.Reclusa can attack in this segment, shooting out fire & ice balls, as well as creating thorny walls. The walls must be avoided, whereas the fire and ice balls can be doused with Mario and Luigi's own attacks. Reclusa then attacks with a large ball of dark energy, which must be repelled with aBro Bomb. Failure in any of the segments will require the Weeping Reclusa phase to be started from the beginning. However, successfully repelling the dark energy ball allows the brothers to enter Weeping Reclusa's maw, continuing the boss fight and starting the phase against theWeeping Core.

Profile[edit]

  • In-game battle description:Luigi can sometimes look at a boss enemy's behavior or environment and get a flash of inspiration that can change everything.
When this happens, try hitting the Luigi Logic Command block on Luigi's turn to try out whatever scheme he's concocted.
If you successfully execute a Luigi Logic plan, you'll get the chance to deal huge damage to a boss.
Luigi Logic plans always involve Mario's cooperation. If he is KO'd, use a 1-Up Mushroom item to recover.[6]
