Mario Bros.[edit]

InMario Bros., the Luigi Cap color was taken from theShellcreeper's palette to distinguish Mario from Luigi. The cap was made green with a greenL emblem.

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario Bros. /Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels[edit]

The Luigi Cap was recolored white inSuper Mario Bros. andSuper Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.

Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]

InSuper Mario Bros. 2, the tip of the cap had been changed to black instead of its usual green. This happened for theMario Cap as well. However, after this game, the Luigi Cap reverted to having a green tip.

Super Mario 64 DS[edit]

InSuper Mario 64 DS, Luigi's cap is used to shape-shift into Luigi if the player is either Mario,Wario, orYoshi. In the same game, Luigi is affected in the same way as Mario and Wario if his cap is lost. Luigi's defense and attack sharply decline while his cap is absent from his head. If the player gets the cap back, Luigi's attack and defense revert to normal. Until Luigi is unlocked, it appears only inBig Boo's Haunt, during any mission except the first one. If the player obtains aPower Flower while wearing the cap, they turn intoVanish Luigi. If he loses his cap and gains aPower Star from another level, Luigi can simply talk to aToad (who will have found and be wearing Luigi's cap) in theMushroom Castle's lobby and get it back from him.

Super Mario 3D Land /Super Mario 3D World /Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]

InSuper Mario 3D Land andSuper Mario 3D World, Luigi, like Mario, loses his cap in hisSmall form. However, in the former game, once the player has 1,110 lives, hisregular form loses his cap instead.

InMario & Luigi: Dream Team, Luigi's cap takes on an additional game role. WhenLuigi is sleeping and Mario is in theDream World, the Touch Screen is dedicated to showing Luigi andStarlow. Starlow can push Luigi's cap over, so as to cover Luigi's face, but Luigi pushes it back up. Heavy impacts in the Dream World, such asBowser's stomping and theLuiginoids' using aGround Pound, also knock over the cap.

WhenDreamy Luigi is in trouble, theL mark on the real Luigi's cap starts to glow. When Starlow presses down on theL, Luiginoids combine with Dreamy Luigi and transform him intoGiant Luigi.
