History[edit]

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Life Mushroom
A Life Mushroom as it appears inSuper Mario Galaxy

InSuper Mario Galaxy and itsNintendo Switchport, whenMario (orLuigi) collects a Life Mushroom, an extra circle containing three additional health sections all colored green is added to his life meter, thereby increasing his overall health from three to six. His health is also increased up to six regardless of how many health sections Mario had before collecting. If at any time Mario's life meter drops below four health sections (as a result of taking damage three times), his life meter will revert to a maximum of three sections of health until Mario is able to collect another Life Mushroom.

Life Mushrooms can be found in many areas throughout the game, including on hiddenplatforms and insidecrystals orchests, as well as appearing from? Coins. Life Mushrooms trapped inside crystals immediately start moving away from the player once freed from the crystals by Mario'sspin. In addition, Life Mushrooms can usually be found right before a boss fight, most often located somewhere within the immediate vicinity of the planet before a boss planet. In some cases, Life Mushrooms can even be acquired during a boss battle. They can also be purchased from aLumalee for 30Star Bits, which causes the Luma to transform into a Life Mushroom for the player to collect. If Mario or Luigi collects a Life Mushroom while already at six health, it does nothing in the original andSuper Mario 3D All-Stars but gives an extra life in the Nintendo Switch version.

In the Nintendo Switch version, scanning any Marioamiibo grants a Life Mushroom.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

Life Mushrooms reappear inSuper Mario Galaxy 2 and behave just as they did in the previous game. They appear to be much more common in this game than in the first. Unlike inSuper Mario Galaxy, if Mario or Luigi collects a Life Mushroom while already at six health, it now grants anextra life. Lumalees reappear and once again sell1-Up Mushrooms and Life Mushrooms.

In theNintendo Switch version, scanning any Mario amiibo grants a Life Mushroom, except when the player is onStarship Mario. Collecting a Life Mushroom during aDaredevil Comet mission via amiibo also grants an extra life.
