ALife-Up Heart is apower-up item that appears inSuper Mario Odyssey. It is the only "traditional" power-up in the game, as for the most part,Mario gains additional powers throughCappy'sCapture ability. A Life-Up Heart serves the same function as aLife Mushroom fromSuper Mario Galaxy andSuper Mario Galaxy 2: When collected, a Life-Up Heart increases Mario's maximum health to six (nine in Assist Mode) and sets his current health to that maximum; however, if his health is depleted back to three (six in Assist Mode), he loses the three extra pieces of health until another Life-Up Heart is obtained. While Mario'slife meter is not at maximum health, a second Life-Up Heart refills his health. If the player collects a Life-Up Heart at maximum health, it grants 10coins instead. Life-Up Hearts can be won from the minigameSlots and found intreasure chests,? Blocks, or various other areas. Only one Life-Up Heart appears in 2D: In theMetro Kingdom'sProjection Room, the 2D Life-Up Heart replaces the1-Up Mushroom within theHidden Block inWorld 1-1 inSuper Mario Bros.

Life-Up Hearts can bepurchased from anyCrazy Cap store for 50 regular coins. Crazy Cap stores do not sell Mario a Life-Up Heart if he already has six health points. The item is treated as though it were already purchased. Purchasing a Life-Up Heart leads to the cutscene for boosting Mario's maximum HP even if a prior Life-Up Heart is still in effect. Additionally, as per that cutscene, the shop menu is closed after Mario buys a Life-Up Heart. Also, if Mario gets defeated three times during a boss battle, a Crazy Cap seller appears to sell him a Life-Up Heart. The seller appears only until the boss is defeated.

A bonus Life-Up Heart can be obtained by scanning anyPrincess Peachamiibo,[1] with the exception of Cat Peach.

TheHeart Rally inMario Kart World is branded with a Life-Up Heart.
