Variant ofKremling

Krockheads[1][2] (also formatted asKrocHeads,[3][4]Krocheads,[5]Kroc Heads,[6] orKrokheads[7] and also known asKrocs[8]) are primitiveKremlings[5] appearing inDonkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest andDonkey Kong Land 2. They are only seen by their head, hence their name, and can be found in swamp andlava environments, usually in groups. Krockheads slightly resemble a giant crocodile namedsarcosuchus, due to the bulbous tip of the snout. They also resemble thegharial, but the Krockhead's snout is not as thin as the gharial's.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest[edit]

Krockheads are enemies inDonkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. They appear in two colors, green and brown (changed to bright red in theremake), each having their own traits. Krockheads usually serve as dormant platforms thatDiddy Kong andDixie Kong can jump from to travel across the lava or swamp. The main difference between green and brown Krockheads is that if the Kongs jump on a brown one, it opens its mouth wide, causing them to be sent high into the air. The player can hold left or right on+Control Pad to control which direction the Kongs go. Some brown Krockheads bounce them higher than others. In some of the swamp levels, Krockheads continuously bob themselves up and down in the water, requiring the Kongs to time their jumps accordingly or else they sink into the swamp with the Krockhead. Krockheads are the main feature inKrockhead Klamber, as the name would suggest, and the second half of the level has some green Krockheads that emerge to the surface temporarily upon touching aKrockhead Barrel. Brown Krockheads do not submerge into the swamp nor are they affected by Krockhead Barrels.

Donkey Kong Land 2[edit]

Krockheads are enemies inDonkey Kong Land 2. Both types return fromDonkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Similarly as before, Krockheads are first encountered inHothead Hop. Krockheads appear inKleaver's Kiln, where they emerge from the level every timeKleaver is hit by akannonball, and the player characters can jump from them to go to the other side of the arena; if they wait too long, the Krockheads go back into the lava. Krockheads once again appear in their namesake level,Krockhead Klamber. UnlikeDonkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, a Krockhead appears in the ending's cast of characters, under "The Baddies" with the other enemies and bosses.

  • Player's Guide:These primitive Kremlings inhabit swamps and are not quick to attack. With their springy jaws, they make great stepping stones and catapults, but be careful that they don't sink out of sight just as you're making your leap.[10]
