TheKoopamart is a supermarket featured in theSuper Mario Bros. comics. As its name suggests, it is supposedly run byKing Koopa (the building is modeled to resemble him), andKoopa Troopas work there as cashiers. Among the items sold there areShyguy masks, G.I.Bullet Bill Heat-Seeker toy guns, and C. Mentum's Famous Sticky Juice. The Koopamart is most likely owned by theApook Corporation, the largest distributor of commercial products in theMushroom Kingdom. In spite of the fact that the store is owned by the Koopas, theMushroom People are quite content to shop there.Toad is a regular customer himself, as he carries a Koopamart Kredit Kard.
The Koopamart is first mentioned by Toad in "Duh Stoopid Bomb!" When he abandons his Shyguy disguise to steal theStupid Bomb, Toad points out toBowser that he bought "this crummy robe" at the Koopamart the day before.
The Koopamart is later seen in "Elect Mario for Man of the Year." Here, Toad lends his Koopamart Kredit Kard to Mario so he can pick up ingredients for his famous homemade pasta sauce. While there, Mario passes out pin buttons to the other customers and picks up a Shyguy mask for a child namedElliot, who is having difficulty reaching it. Elliot's mom then tosses away the mask, which lands in Mario's shopping cart and sets the comic's plot in motion.
Probably by coincidence, the Koopamart is also mentioned in theSuper Mario World television series episode "Gopher Bash." Right when getting away with the stolen crops,Cheatsy Koopa taunts the Mario Bros., telling them that shopping at the Koopamart is the only way for the Mario Bros. to eat.[1]
In theNintendo Adventure BookLeaping Lizards, Mario mentions thatPrincess Toadstool spottedIggy Koopa with theMagic Silver Whistle they need to change theMushroom King back to normal while shopping for snails at theKoopermarket.
