Konami is a Japanese entertainment company that has made twoSuper Mario games:Mario Roulette andDance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix. Konami is known for theMetal Gear series, which featuresSolid Snake as one of the main characters and occasionally hasMario and/orYoshi appear in cameos. Snake appears as a fighter inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. Another Konami franchise,Castlevania, is also represented inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, withSimon andRichter Belmont as fighters.
In April 2005, Konami became the controlling shareholder ofHudson Soft, which, at the time, developed theMario Party series forNintendo. Around this time, Konami went under a corporate restructuring, becoming a holding company and consolidating their development sector into a new subsidiary known asKonami Digital Entertainment.[2] In April 2011, Konami acquired the rest of Hudson, making Hudson a subsidiary of Konami. On March 1, 2012, Hudson merged with Konami Digital Entertainment, with the latter ending up as the surviving entity.
