Kab-ombs[1] are a variant ofBob-omb first appearing inNew Super Mario Bros. A Kab-omb has an indigo face just like a regular Bob-omb, except it has smaller circular eyes, big blue lips, and slightly smaller feet. It also has a green fringe around the bottom of its body, and it lacks the windup key. Unlike regular Bob-ombs, Kab-ombs will be defeated instantly if they arejumped on instead of exploding; however, if they are struck by fire, such as afireball orvolcanic debris, their fuses will become lit and they will turn red, their eyes become angry,[2] and they begin to chaseMario orLuigi at increased speeds for a few seconds, before jumping upwards and exploding intofireworks. Kab-ombs can still be taken out bystomping on them even if they are red, though. The only stage they appear in isWorld 8-8—alevel featuring constant eruptions spewing volcanic debris.
Kab-ombs make a reappearance as items inMario Golf: World Tour. When a Kab-omb is used, it explodes in midair to drop the ball straight down.
