Jerusalem (Arabic:القُدس,al-Quds; Hebrew:יְרוּשָׁלַיִם,Yerushaláyim) is a city in West Asia claimed by both theState of Israel and theState of Palestine as their capital city.

Mario is Missing![edit]

Luigi visits Jerusalem inthe PC version ofMario is Missing!, in which it appears in the final set of levels. Despitethe long-running dispute between Israel and Palestine over the city's territorial status, the game lists the entire city as Israeli.

As with all other cities in the game, Jerusalem was invaded byKoopa Troopas sent byBowser. The Troopas stole artifacts from various landmarks of the city: theDome of the Rock from the Islamic shrine of the same name, abrick from theWestern Wall, theDamascus Gate, and theDead Sea Scrolls from theShrine of the Book.Mayor Bernstein tasked Luigi with finding all the artifacts and returning them to their respective landmarks.

Newspaper[edit]

Penguin Invasion!
Penguins are popping up in people's freezers, ice cream stores and ice makers. Parched people all over the planet are worried that there's nothing cold to drink because penguins are taking up all the freezer space. Stan Lowtemp, president of Stan's Freezer Repair, is telling his customers not to worry. "Mario and Luigi are on the job," he says.
Valuables Vanish
Some very valuable valuables have vanished this week from venues throughout the city. The thefts are almost certainly the work of those twisted turtles, the Koopas. The visiting varmints have been seen by several witnesses, who provided these sketches:

Mario Quiz Cards[edit]

In theMario Quiz Cards, Jerusalem is mentioned on the back of a card which asks players to identify what amenorah is. The card states how the menorah's eight candles symbolize the eight days ofHanukkah (spelled "Chanukah" in the blurb), which commemorates the re-dedication of theTemple of Jerusalem after theMaccabees recaptured it from theSyrian Greeks. According to legend, the Temple menorah's candles were miraculously able to burn for the full eight days of the re-dedication process despite the Jewish high priest only having enough oil for one.
