History[edit]
Super Mario series[edit]
Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic /Super Mario Bros. 2 /Super Mario Advance[edit]
Jars inYume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic andSuper Mario Bros. 2 are the main modes of transportation ofSubcon, and if a character goes down a jar, they will appear in a small room sometimes containing akey being protected by aPhanto. Jars in certainlevels withinSubspace contain a Subspace Warp that warps the player character to a certain laterworld. A door from aMagical Potion cannot be spawned inside of a jar.Cobrats sometimes lurk in the openings of some jars. Certain jars areShy Guy Generators[9] andBob-Omb Generators,[10] which generate endless streams of redShyguys orBob-Ombs, respectively, unless their entrances are blocked. InSuper Mario Advance, some jars also containSparks andSpark Chasers, as well as (sometimes Shyguy-ridden) Ferris wheelplatforms, and one contains abouncing blade; jars were also added to levels in that version, and certain closed-off jars in previous versions were opened.
BS Super Mario USA[edit]
Jars inBS Super Mario USA are used identically as inSuper Mario Bros. 2, except jars inSubspace lead to a battle againstWart.
Super Mario Sunshine[edit]
Jars[11] inSuper Mario Sunshine appear a hidden room inNoki Bay, underneathGooper Blooper's boss arena. One of the two largest jars releases ablue coin when sprayed at.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder[edit]
Jars are items that can be picked up and tossed as a projectile inSuper Mario Bros. Wonder. When tossed, they fall apart, but they defeat struck enemies. Some jars are filled withwater, and they release it onto the ground when they break the same wayElephant Mario sprays it from his trunk. They are most recurring in theSunbaked Desert, within which they can also be found covering the heads of the snake enemySerpont.
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
Jars in theSuper Smash Bros. series appear in the background of theMushroom Kingdom II stage inSuper Smash Bros. Melee andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Mario Pinball Land[edit]
Jars inMario Pinball Land appear on the first pyramid interior board of theShifting Sands Stage. There are four jars, which have earthy colors and diamond shapes on their pattern. They cannot be interacted with as their corners are elevated, butSnakes come out of them if the middlefloor panel is activated.
Mario Kart series[edit]
Jars appear throughoutShy Guy Bazaar inMario Kart 7 andMario Kart Tour. These jars appear in large and small varieties, and are depicted with a green hue, full lower diamond shapes, no horizontal lines, and a lid covering the top. The large version is decorative, but the small version appears as an obstacle. If driven into, they break and some items fly out, namelyBananas,Mushrooms orSuper Stars. Another jar immediately reappears to replace the shattered jar after it vanishes. "Jar" was previously all lowercase before the2019 Paris Tour.[12] Certain jars, known assnake jars, can walk and move around, with white eyes peering from under the lid when doing so. These snake jars do not contain items, instead revealing many small, green snakes springing out when broken. These snakes make squawking noises while bearing a smiling expression when they leave their jars.
In addition, stone structures resembling the jars fromSuper Mario Bros. 2 are seen at the final bend of Shy Guy Bazaar. The structures are white with red patterns inMario Kart 7, but they are gray with a darker gray pattern inMario Kart Tour.
Princess Peach: Showtime![edit]

Pots appear in various levels inPrincess Peach: Showtime!, most commonly in theNinja Peach,Kung Fu Peach andSwordfighter Peach levels. If Peach breaks the pots, they can either be empty or containcoins,Sparkle Gems or theRibboner.
InNinjutsu: The Art of Rapids the Ribboner has ended up in a pot on purpose, claiming he has mastered the "ancient ninja art: the pot-hide technique." On all later occasions where he has ended up in or behind pots he has done so by accident and wants to be rescued byPeach.
Certain sections in theKung Fu Peach levels have a specific subcategory of theSour Bunch who throw pots at Peach, which damages her if they hit her, and inKung Fu Rehearsal a pot hit on Peach will instantly end the level.
