InSuper Mario 3D World and its campaign inSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, invisible walkways are the main feature ofFootlight Lane, and also appear in one challenge inMystery House Marathon. Invisible walkways can be made visible in a variety of ways:
- When a player stands on one, a small amount of the platform is revealed around them.
- A strong impact from aGround Pound, aThwomp slamming down, or aBullet Bill exploding will temporarily reveal a much larger radius around the source.
- A player using aSuper Star will reveal an even larger radius as long as it is active.
- They will be revealed when directly interacted with via touch controls (Wii U) or the gyroscope (Switch).
In theBowser's Fury campaign ofSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, invisible walkways return, where the material composes the majority ofTrickity Tower. The material also surrounds the perimeter ofLake Lapcat during the battles withFury Bowser. In this campaign, some new ways to reveal the platforms were added.
- Projectiles from aFire Flower or aBoomerang Flower will temporarily reveal the platform upon impact.
- Bowser Jr. will reveal a small radius around himself much like the player.
- Bowser's Flames andfalling spikes from Fury Bowser will reveal the platforms if they make contact.

Invisible walkways return inCaptain Toad: Treasure Tracker and its ports, where they are primarily located inSinister Street Signs. In that level, some invisible walkways appear after aP Switch is pressed. One particular invisible walkway acts as a slide thatToadette can use.
