TheInvincibility Leaf (also calledInvincible Super Leaf[1] orGold Leaf[2]) is apower-up that first appeared inSuper Mario 3D Land. This power-up is an enhanced version of theSuper Leaf, colored gold and white instead of the usual brown tones, giving the user the additional power of permanent invincibility in the level it is found in.
History[edit]
Super Mario 3D Land[edit]
InSuper Mario 3D Land, itsAssist Block only appears afterMario orLuigi loses five lives in a (skipped) normal world level (either by using aWarp Zone or skipping alocked level); it does not appear in the Special Worlds nor does it reappear in levels that have already been cleared, meaning Luigi can only obtain the Invincibility Leaf and the P-Wing if levels are skipped, and have yet to be cleared. Using the leaf will turn Mario intoWhite Tanooki Mario, making him invincible for the entire level (though he cannot getextra lives). After completing a level with it, the player will revert back tothe normal Tanooki form.
New Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]
The Invincibility Leaf returns inNew Super Mario Bros. 2, but changes Mario intoWhite Raccoon Mario instead of White Tanooki Mario. As White Raccoon Mario, theP-Meter fills up faster than as normalRaccoon Mario, and Mario has the ability to walk/run on water, likeMini Mario. The power-up will last for the entire level and will revert to normal Raccoon Mario/Luigi upon completion. White Raccoon Mario cannot be replaced by any other powered-up form, includingGold Mario andMega Mario. However,Super Stars can still be used while the Invincibility Leaf is in effect. To obtain the secret exits and unlock hidden levels, the player must clear the level without using the Invincibility Leaf. It can also be used inCoin Rush mode, where Mario remains in White Raccoon form for the entire pack.
As withSuper Mario 3D Land, its Assist Block only appears after Mario loses five consecutive lives in any given level, with the exception of theCannon levels. However, the block will remain in the level until the player beats it without using it and it can return in a level, even if the level in question has been cleared.
Super Mario 3D World /Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]
The Invincibility Leaf also appears inSuper Mario 3D World, referred to as theInvincible Super Leaf on the website, as well as theGold Leaf in thePrima game guide. It again turns players into the White Tanooki form. The Assist Block functions as it did inNew Super Mario Bros. 2, but the number of lost lives needed to make it appear is based on the number of players: five for one player, twelve for two, eighteen for three, and 24 for four. Furthermore, the Invincibility Leaf cannot be used inChampion's Road.
The Invincibility Leaf reprises its role inSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. However, when compared to the newInvincibility Bell, the latter takes priority over it. This consequently makes this game the first to let the player hold the Invincibility Leaf in theitem storage; completing the course or losing a life will convert it into aSuper Leaf.
