Battle[edit]

Mario faces off against the Ice Vellumental

The Ice Vellumental starts the battle encased in a block of ice, and is immune to most ofMario's attacks, with the exception of minimal damage from theFire Flower. Mario must use theFire Vellumental's power to melt the ice block, and can then damage the Ice Vellumental with the1,000-Fold Arms, which will render itdizzy and cause it to lose a turn. Later into the battle, the Ice Vellumental will start encasing certain panels with either blocks of ice or snow patches. If Mario walks across either, he will befrozen and will lose his turn. The blocks of ice can be broken by sliding them through the center of the arena while the rings are being organized, although cancelling the move will put the ice back. The snow patches can be removed with the Fire Vellumental, but this will likely cause the Ice Vellumental to retaliate with Cold Claw or Glacier Beam, both of which create more snow patches.

The Ice Vellumental has a variety of attacks. It can use Polar Roller to attack Mario for 40-48 damage on the closest ring, 37-43 for second-closest, 33-38 for second-farthest, and 30-34 for farthest. Bear Claw does 42-49 damage on the closest ring and 32-37 on the second-closest, with Cold Claw doing 52-62 and 42-49 in the same situations, respectively. Bowler Bear does 31-37 or 21-25, Glacier Beam does 43-50 or 26-31, Piercing Cold does 45-52 or 40-45, and Ice Breaker does 36-43 or 32-39. It also has a special move called Ice Age that does 60 damage which is has tocharge.

Towards the end of the battle, the Ice Vellumental will create an Ice Maze every turn. It starts by showing a safe route, then shuffles two or three of the rings. The safe route shown must be memorized before the rings get shuffled, and will always involve walking over an ON panel and ending at a 1,000-Fold Arms Magic Circle.
