Ice Land[1][2] (alternativelyIced Land,[3] theIce World,[4]Winter Wonderland,[5]Winter World,[6] orIce Country)[7] is the sixthworld inSuper Mario Bros. 3.
History[edit]
Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]
Ice Land is accessed after completingSky Land. It is the largest world in the game, with tenlevels, threeHammer Brothers, threefortresses, threeSpade Panels, twoToad's Houses, and acastle that has been taken over by anairship. As the world's name implies, it is a frozen wasteland covered with slippery floors and frozen lakes, with many structures and platforms made ofIce Blocks in various sizes.Lemmy Koopa takes over this icy kingdom by stealing the royalmagic wand and turning theking of Ice Land into a seal (aMonty Mole in the game's remakes). Ice Land is also the only world that is possible to go backwards from using aMagic Whistle, as using it in the sixth world will allow one to return to the fifth. However, in Worlds 5 and 8, using it can cause one to return to the current world.
The map in theGame Boy Advance version shows that World 6 is north ofWorld 8 and east ofWorld 7. Additionally, said version alters the path to the second Toad's House so that it can be accessed at the fork after World 6-4 instead of through World 6-5 only.
Ice Land has the following levels:

The first set will give up aHammer when defeated, the second set will drop aStarman, and the third set will leave behind aLakitu's Cloud. If the player meets the requirements for theTreasure Ship, a Hammer Brother will be replaced with that ship. |
The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]
InThe Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, Ice Land, though never referred to as such, only appears in the episode "Life's Ruff" (which is the only episode where this world is shown as the title card), where it has a different ruler namedKing Windbag. He bullies his servants and never says "please", but whenHip andHop arrive, they steal his wand and turn him and Luigi into dogs and harass them for a short time, but are eventually defeated and returned toDark Land. The castle is depicted with igloos around it.
