The Hoohoo civilization was an ancient group mentioned inMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, who are said to be the ancestors of the modern dayHoohooligans. They lived onHoohoo Mountain and wrote their countless jokes using a type of pictograph calledHooroglyphs, which appear in the background ofHoohoo Village, Hoohoo Mountain,Guffawha Ruins, andTeehee Valley's underground ruins. They also createdHoohooros.

Soybean civilization[edit]
The Soybean civilization are described byFava's brother inMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, as they are the focus of his research. They left behind treasures known asBeanstones that can be unearthed by Mario and Luigi inBeanbean Castle Town. They inhabited theBeanbean Kingdom before its current population, and were divided into several types, including spin-beans, mole-beans, and dash-beans. They were also said to be incredibly short, making their treasure only discoverable by Mini Mario. The Soybean civilization is also referenced by a Toad inLittle Fungitown, who claims that they built the lift platform from Teehee Valley to Little Fungitown.

Luff[edit]
TheLuffs are an ancient race mentioned inLuigi's stories and theSuper Luigi book series inPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Fitting with the food theme of Luigi's adventure, "Luff" may derive from "loaf" (as in a loaf of bread).
The Luffs created theMarvelous Compass, which they used to create an empire that spanned much of the world. The Luffs were later cursed by the compass due to their greed, causing the Luff empire to fall into ruin. The survivors of the empire's collapse, including a Luff boy namedCranberry, split the compass into seven parts to prevent a repeat of their fate. Cranberry kept one of the pieces and went to sleep in theRapturous Ruins for 1,000 years, left as the last of his people, until he was awoken by Luigi; he disappeared after giving Luigi his piece of the compass and telling the story of his people.
While the Luffs are not mentioned again after Cranberry's disappearance in Luigi's account of his adventure, Super Luigi 5 tells that the villainousMinister Crepe intended to allow the Luff empire to rule again using the Marvelous Compass. Being defeated by Luigi shortly after revealing his intentions, Crepe did not succeed in accomplishing this.

Inthe Enigmansion, one text on a bookshelf reads "PAPERABBLESTICKEROBBLE DERRSTICKER STICKARONISTICK PAPERDAPERDOOPER STICKITYSTICKITYSTICKITY PAPEROOSKI PAPERDOODLE STICKERPAPERRAWK."Kersti claims to have not studied Ancient Stickerish since high school, and flunked her Ancient Stickerish class. However, she manages to translate it as "an ancient prophecy that fell from the Sticker Comet" that reads "The five lights...then the truth shall be revealed!"

Soakits might be a variant ofSnifits. In the hot springs ofRedpepper Crater inPaper Mario: Color Splash, one Snifit says that they are "converting to a Soakit" instead of being a Snifit, to which another Snifit agrees and says thatBowser works them too hard. It is unclear whether Soakits are a different type of Snifit entirely, or if the Snifits are just making a joke about how they are neglecting their duties to Bowser.

Ice ants andsnow fleas are two types of insect mentioned bythe Snowman inSnowman's Land inSuper Mario 64 when a character (Mario,Luigi,Yoshi, orWario) gets on the icy platform in front of the Snowman. The Snowman's poor vision makes it think that the character is one of the insects, and itblows them off in response. It can be presumed that these insects are ice-themed versions of real ants and fleas.
