Eat at Tip's is presumably a restaurant featured in theSaturday Supercade episode "How Much is That Gorilla in the Window?", appearing on a poster on a building asMario andPauline chaseDonkey Kong. Its name is a reference toEat at Joe's, a placeholder name for a fictional or hypothetical average person's restaurant. Not much else is known about the business.

Plaza El Toro[edit]

Plaza El Toro is a square featured inMexico City in theSaturday Supercade episode "The Amazing Rollerskate Race", mentioned on several posters at a bullring, as well as a poster inside a cantina. The name literally means "Bull Square" in Spanish, though it may also be referring to Mexico City's bullring, due it possibly being a misspelling ofplaza de toro, meaning "bullring".

Sweetville Jail[edit]

Sweetville Jail is a jail mentioned in theSaturday Supercade episode "Junior Meets Kid Dynamo". AfterDonkey Kong Jr.,Bones, andKid Dynamo captureDr. Demise and his assistantHorace, Bones mentions that they will be taking them to Sweetville Jail.

In "Wild Thing", Mario and Luigi have each borrowed a book from the library, which they intend to read over the weekend.

In the German dub, Luigi instead compares the castle to theU-Bahn-Station Brooklyn.

In actuality, the library system of Brooklyn as a whole is known as theBrooklyn Public Library, rather than any one single library going by that name.

The park is supposedly located either in or nearKansas. The mascot of the park is said to be a character namedUncle Waldo.Norman and his family intended on heading there for an outing during the events of "Mush-Rumors", but on their way to the park, Norman accidentally drives through aWarp Pipe hidden in a tunnel, which leads to theMushroom Kingdom. During their visit, Norman's family mistake the Mushroom Kingdom for the actual amusement park. Later on, Mario and Luigi lead Norman's family back to theReal World, where they continue to drive to the amusement park.

Eat at Joe's is a location which name is shown in any ending cutscene of the MS-DOS version forMario's Time Machine. WhenMario confrontsBowser, Bowser tries to use histimulator to escape. Eat at Joe's, as well as theGobi Desert, are the only few comprehensible location names shown on the time machine's display, before Bowser settles on "Paradise" in the year 2000 (in the good ending, the timulator malfunctions and teleports him to theCretaceous Period instead).

The term "Eat at Joe's", orJoe's Diner, is a common placeholder name for a fictional, small restaurant establishment owned by a hypothetical everyman.

These mentions respectively describe Shroomlock as "with" and "of" Toadland Yard, suggesting that he works for the organization. Shroomlock says "It's Shroomlock, from Toadland Yard," whenever a quest features him.

Toadland Yard, in addition to having a namesake in "Toad," is named after Scotland Yard (whose actual name is "New Scotland Yard"), a British police headquarters. Scotland Yard is famous for being included in several fictional crime stories such as those involving the famous detective Sherlock Holmes, who happens to be Shroomlock's namesake. (In Sherlock Holmes stories involving Scotland Yard, Holmes, unlike Shroomlock, did not work for the headquarters; instead, he often teamed up or even competed with its operatives.)

Dry Dry Kingdom is an ancient civilization that existed an unknown time ago inDry Dry Desert; Dry Dry Kingdom is mentioned inPaper Mario by aDryite living inDry Dry Outpost, as well as by other characters, though not by name.

Dry Dry Kingdom was evidently a prosperous society ruled by aNomadimouse namedKing Mousta. The subjects of King Mousta rose up against him and rebelled against his rule. Wishing to have a society akin to anarchy, they exiled him from Dry Dry Kingdom. King Mousta eventually struck back against his traitorous followers sometime after his impeachment, defeating them with those still loyal to him, thieves and bandits who would later go on to create the town of Dry Dry Outpost.

This war waged by Dry Dry Kingdom's inhabitants and King Mousta may have caused the destruction of Dry Dry Kingdom, or at least contributed to it. Currently, the only remains of Dry Dry Kingdom's existence areDry Dry Ruins, which is guarded byMoustafa, a possible descendant of King Mousta or his second-in-command, who is a thief boss charged with guarding the ruins.

Plumpbelly Village[edit]

Plumpbelly Village is a town on the Strudel Continent. It is the location of one of the pieces of the Marvelous Compass that Luigi retrieves during the events ofPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

When Luigi arrives, the town is ruled by a two-headed snake namedHizza, who demands regular sacrifices of the village's women. Luigi offers to don a ceremonial chiffon bride's dress and go in place of the mayor's daughter, who is next up.Jerry, the cherry-shaped Bob-omb, horrified by the sight of Luigi in a dress, followed him to try and stop him, but Hizza takes Luigi into his lair. Luigi darts around the cave and makes the snake eat itself, disappearing in a puff of smoke. After Luigi emerges with the Marvelous Compass piece that Hizza was guarding, the mayor offers his daughter's hand in marriage. Luigi considers it, but that night, while staying in the village, he decides against it, convinced that Princess Eclair is his future bride, and sneaks out of the town. Jerry follows Luigi andBlooey, making it his life mission to make sure that Luigi never dresses in drag again.

TheRapturous Ruins are a location in theWaffle Kingdom mentioned inLuigi's stories and theSuper Luigi book series inPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. They are located either within (according to Luigi's account) or beyond (according to Super Luigi 4) theGrimble Forest.

Luigi is directed to the Rapturous Ruins by the piece of theMarvelous Compass he gains inJazzafrazz Town. He describes the ruins as "domed", and recalls that the interior was pure white, so that Luigi could not tell the difference between the floor and walls. Eventually, Luigi discovered a chamber containing a sleeping boy,Cranberry, in which he also met the mysterious characterScreamy, who later joined him on his adventures, though Screamy is not mentioned in the Super Luigi series. After Luigi woke Cranberry, the last of theLuffs, and received a piece of the Marvelous Compass from him, both Cranberry and the ruins disappeared, and Luigi was pointed towardHatesong Tower.

Rumblebump Volcano is a place Luigi visits inPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door to retrieve a Marvelous Compass piece. He tells Mario he met a giant stone-guardian with a weak spot at his head looking like a ruby, and he threw hisBlooper friendBlooey at it, which defeated the guardian. When Mario asks Blooey, though, he finds out that Luigi really missed and that Blooey ended up in the magma. It is not known how Luigi managed to defeat the guardian.

TheWaffle Kingdom is a faraway land thatLuigi visits during the events ofPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. The Waffle Kingdom is ruled byPrincess Eclair and her cabinet.

After Mario leaveshome to findPrincess Peach in the town ofRogueport, Luigi is once again left alone. However, a letter arrives for the Mario Bros., which Luigi cannot resist to peek at. The letter was fromMinister Crepe, the Minister of the Waffle Kingdom. According to the letter, the lovely Princess Eclair was kidnapped by theChestnut King and the kingdom needed assistance from the great hero Mario. However, since Mario was not around, Luigi went in his place.

When Luigi arrives in the Waffle Kingdom, he is given a piece of theMarvelous Compass. If Luigi could find all the pieces, he would be able to track down Princess Eclair. After much toil and trouble (and quite a bit of luck), Luigi collects all the pieces and heads to Hatesong Tower to find the princess. However, he actually finds the evil Chestnut King, and the two engage in an epic battle. Ultimately Princess Eclair appears and interrupts the battle. Apparently, the princess and the Chestnut King were lovers but the king was transformed into a monster by Minister Crepe, who was in fact a dark sorcerer. As it turns out, Crepe had orchestrated events so that Luigi would reassemble the Magical Compass for him. Once he had the compass, Crepe would use its power to conquer the Waffle Kingdom, saying theLuff empire will rise again. However, Luigi and his allies defeat the shadowy Crepe. As a result, peace is returned to the Waffle Kingdom.

Count Bleck's World[edit]

Count Bleck's World orBlumiere's World is a world thatCount Bleck says he is going to create after destroying all worlds inSuper Paper Mario, and live there with his minions,Mimi,Nastasia,O'Chunks, andDimentio happily. Near the end, Dimentio claims that Count Bleck does not mean it and he is actually going to destroy all worlds and not leave a single one, not evenhis own, but Tippi alerts him he is lying, causing Dimentio to fight Mario.

At the end of the game, Lord Blumiere and Lady Timpani (Count Bleck and Tippi's true forms) go to some other world where they presumably live happily ever after. After Mario and company all return toFlipside, Nastasia is sad Count left and cannot stop crying.

O'Chunks and Mimi tell her that Count Bleck must be alive and in peace. They say that they will even build the world that Count Bleck wanted so much—a world with love and not war.

Squirpia[edit]

Squirpia is a long-forgotten kingdom mentioned inSuper Paper Mario, that once existed inOuter Space. It is mentioned in-game that 1,500 years ago, theTribe of Ancients visitedSquirpina XIV, the then-queen of Squirpia, and entrusted her with the BluePure Heart. In order to protect the world, Squirpina hid the treasure in theWhoa Zone, an apparently important place to the kingdom, and proceeded to place her young sonSquirps inside a hibernation capsule, so that, when the time came, he would be able to guide the heroes to the Pure Heart in order to collect it.

Squirps explains his story to the heroes at the end of Chapter 4; however, he does not make it clear how Squirpia fell, and so the reason is left unknown throughout the rest of the game. Following the defeat of the final boss, the young prince can be found speaking to a statue of his mother in the Whoa Zone, where he declares that he will restore his kingdom someday. He is never shown to accomplish this goal.

TheSticker Star is mentioned to beKersti's home inPaper Mario: Sticker Star. It is also where theSticker Comet and theRoyal Stickers come from. Kersti mentions the Sticker Star at several points in the game. AfterMario agrees to help Kersti find the missing Royal Stickers, she explains that she cannot go back to the Sticker Star without them. The Sticker Comet and the Royal Stickers are drawn to each other due to the power of the Sticker Star, enabling Mario and Kersti to collect thepieces of the broken Sticker Comet to find the Royal Stickers. The only force that can match the power of the golden Royal Sticker is power that also originates from the Sticker Star.

The Sticker Star places a high value onpaperization and has an academic system that requires students to learn and study it in elementary school. It has sticker museums, but theSticker Museum in theMushroom Kingdom is grander than any of the ones on the Sticker Star.^[31] It is implied that other stickers like Kersti live there, as Kersti mentions speaking to other stickers and no other talking stickers appear in the game.^[32]

It is mentioned in "The Mario Monster Mash", in whichDr. Frankenstein comes from Transylvania toBrooklyn under the alias Dr. Frank N. Stein and becomes Mario and Luigi's neighbor. Transylvania itself is shown on one of Frankenstein's moving boxes containingthe monster.

In theKing Koopa's Kool Kartoons episode, "Kids Rights Day",King Koopa jokingly asks an audience member "Where're you from? Biafra?!" Reportedly, this was an ad-lib made by actorChristopher Collins at a group of African-American children.^[35]

Los Angeles Zoo[edit]

TheLos Angeles Zoo is a 133-acre zoo that opened in Los Angeles, California on November 28th, 1966. It is mentioned multiple times inKing Koopa's Kool Kartoons. In the episode, "Good Golly, Miss Molly!", King Koopa gives four tickets to the LA Zoo to Carlos.

Canada (Inuktitut:ᑲᓇᑕ,Kanata; Cree:Kānatā; Ojibwe:Gaanada; Mi'kmaq / Mohawk / Dene / Shuswap:Kanata) is a large country in the northernmost part of North America, located directly north of the contingentUnited States of America and east of the non-contingent US state of Alaska. While the country as a whole does not directly appear in theSuper Mario franchise, it is obliquely represented on multiple occasions.

InMario is Missing!, Luigi visits one of two different settings depending on the version: inthe NES version, Luigi visitsMontreal (which is merely listed on theGlobulator in theSNES andPC versions), while in the PC version, he visitsToronto.Vancouver is also listed on theGlobulator, with the PC version further mentioning Calgary, Ottawa, and Winnipeg. Additionally, inWarioWare: Twisted!, Canada is the opponent in Level 2 ofIce Hockey.

Vancouver makes multiple other appearances in theSuper Mario franchise.Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is set in the city, which hosted the real-life2010 Winter Olympics. Czechoslovakia (Czech/Slovak:Československo /Česko-Slovensko) was a country in Central Europe which existed from 1918 to 1992, formed in the wake of World War I and splitting up into the modern-day Czech Republic and Slovakia in the aftermath of the Cold War. Inthe PC version ofMario is Missing!, the cities of Bratislava and Prague are listed on theGlobulator despite the game being released shortly after the country's dissolution; incidentally, the two locations are the respective capitals of Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Meanwhile, inWarioWare: Twisted!, theIce Hockey microgame features Czechoslovakia as the player's opponent in level 3.

East Germany[edit]

East Germany (German:Ostdeutschland; Russian:Восточная Германия,Vostochnaya Germaniya; Sorbian:Němska Šěrjowa (Upper) /Němska Štwórna (Lower)) was a country which, per its name, administered the eastern states of the region ofGermany from 1949 until 1990, when it was absorbed intoWest Germany. Ethiopia[edit]

Ethiopia (Amharic:ኢትዮጵያ,Ītiyop'iya; Oromo:Itiyoophiyaa; Somali:Itoobiya; Wolayta:Toophphiyaa; Tigrinya:ኢትዮጵያ,Ítiyop'iya; Afar:Itiyoppiya) is a country inAfrica. Its capital city isAddis Ababa, which is mentioned on theGlobulator. It is mentioned in the gameMario is Missing! as one of three countries (the others being Kenya andTanzania) to be "eagerly excavated" in order to solve the mystery of where human beings first lived. Inthe PC version, the Globulator additionally lists Asmara; while this was technically correct at the time of the MS-DOS version's release, it was already claimed byEritrea, whichformalized its independence from Ethiopia several months later. The subsequentCD-ROM Deluxe version still incorrectly lists Asmara as Ethiopian rather than Eritrean.

Georgia is one of the fifty states of theUnited States of America, notable for being the birthplace of late civil rights activistMartin Luther King Jr. and for being the host state for the1996 Summer Olympics, which marked the game's 100th anniversary. Inthe PC version ofMario is Missing!, the state capital, Atlanta, is mentioned on theGlobulator. Additionally, inNBA Street V3, Georgia serves as the home state of theAtlanta Hawks.

Greece (Greek:Ελλάδα,Elláda /Ελλάς,Ellás) is a country in the Balkans region of Southeast Europe notable for being the historical home of multiple ancient city-states credited with forming the basis for modern Western civilization. In theSNES andPC versions ofMario is Missing!, Luigi visits the capital city,Athens; the latter version additionally lists Thessaloniki on theGlobulator. Additionally, a pamphlet inBerlin mentions howBrandenburg Gate was designed to resemble the Acropolis of Athens, simply referred to as the "Greek Acropolis" in game (when in reality, ancient Greece had multiple acropolises), while a pamphlet inCairo namedrops the ancient Greeks when discussing theGreat Pyramid.

InMario's Time Machine, meanwhile, Mario visits Athens to recover a copy ofPlato'sRepublic and, inthe NES version, thetorch used to open the first ancient Olympic Games, when Bowser steals them. In theMario Quiz Cards, the back of the card asking "What are hennins, bowlers, and boaters?" mentions how "the first brimmed hats were worn by ancient Greek travelers."

In theClub Nintendo comic "Sag niemals Holerö!", Mario briefly mentions India afterTodojewski recommends that he go to a restaurant called theTaj Mahal, confusing it for thereal-world mausoleum that it is named after.
