Hat cloud

Hat clouds,^[1] also referred to ascap clouds,^[2] are non-solid objects that appear inSuper Mario Odyssey. They are floating white top hats with question marks on them resembling the ones found on? Blocks, and the hats usually but not always float above gaps. Hat clouds are found in theCascade Kingdom, theCloud Kingdom, and theLuncheon Kingdom. WhenCappy is thrown at one, the cloud grows into a cloudplatform, similarly to the onesCloud Mario produces inSuper Mario Galaxy 2. The platform can be of one of a number of sizes, depending on the hat cloud in question. Much like the Cloud Mario platforms, the platform of a hat cloud is only temporary. After enough time passes, the platform shrinks back down and goes back to being a hat cloud once at minimum size. Just before this happens, the platform starts to swell and contract. Performing aGround Pound on a hat cloud after activating it makes the platform last slightly longer.

Some hat clouds float within blue wireframes, which indicate the exact size of the platform hitting them creates.

The travel brochure of the Cloud Kingdom discusses hat clouds, referring to them as "super-light stuff" and "strangely floaty material" and stating they were first discovered recently by researchers at Fossil Falls; it also states that the discovery of hat clouds led to the discovery of the Cloud Kingdom by promoting certain researchers to begin investigations regarding its existence.
