Hat Trampolines[1][2] are objects that appear inSuper Mario Odyssey. They are red flowers that are usually closed; however, whenCappy, aBullet Bill, or a thrownseed collides with one, or when Marioground-pounds on one, it temporarily opens. WhenMario touches it in this state, it launches him into the air, making him perform aSpin Jump where he spins slowly but also floats down slower, similarly to how he performs a Spin Jump afterjumping on aSpindrift inSuper Mario 64 andSuper Mario 64 DS. The Hat Trampoline closes back up after a short time, but additional attacks and bounces keep it open for longer. Some Hat Trampolines, primarily those seen in bonus areas, are permanently open at all times. Additionally, the underside ofRango's hat functions identically to a Hat Trampoline and has a similar design. TheRango Hat that Mario can purchase from aCrazy Cap store has the same pattern, but that hat's flower has no additional effects compared to Cappy.
Hat Trampolines can bouncecaptured characters upward as well, although none of them can spin-jump. The height of the bounce can vary. For example,Goombas get boosted higher thanCheep Cheeps. The opening of a Hat Trampoline can defeatMini Goombas, as seen in theLake Kingdom. Bulkier enemies like Goombas are not affected.
