Grate
- Not to be confused withFlip Panel (Chain-Link).
Grates[1] appear inSuper Mario Galaxy 2 as disc-shaped objects inFlipsville Galaxy that grant a connection between two different surfaces of a platform.Ground-pounding on a grate causesMario orLuigi to flip to the other side of the platform, changing gravitation and allowing him to walk on that side. Simply falling off the platform does not switch the force of gravitation. Grates are also helpful in defeating certain enemies. Pounding a grate while aPupdozer walks over it is the only way to defeat the enemy. Grates are featured during the mission "Flip-Flopping in Flipsville." Moreover, grates play a major role in the battle withGlamdozer, where the player needs to use them and slam her from underneath four times in order to defeat her. However, during battle, Glamdozer often shoots large blobs oflava that can fill in the grates temporarily, rendering them unusable during that period of time. However, Mario or Luigi is unable to use grates ifChomps are on the other side.
In the mission "Flipsville's New Digs," all grates are replaced by dirt patches where the player must use theSpin Drill to switch the force of gravitation.
