- “HeyMario! I'm Goombario. I'm your biggest fan!”
- —Goombario,Paper Mario
Goombario is a friendlyGoomba who lives inGoomba Village and greatly admiresMario andLuigi. As such, his name is a portmanteau of "Goomba" and "Mario". Goombario is the firstparty member inPaper Mario, and his specialty is providing Mario with information about the various locations and enemies in the game. Thus, he is the only Party Member with two attacks which do not requireFP. InPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, this task is carried on byGoombella (in the French version ofPaper Mario, he even talks in a similar fashion to her), inSuper Paper Mario byTippi andTiptron, inPaper Mario: Sticker Star byKersti, inPaper Mario: Color Splash byHuey, and inPaper Mario: The Origami King byOlivia. Goombario's appearance is somewhat atypical compared to a standard Goomba in that he has two flat teeth instead of the standard fangs; the only other Goombas to have this trait are Goombario's family andProfessor Frankly. He also wears a blue cap and has blushed pink cheeks to distinguish himself from other Goombas. In certain area tattles, Goombario states that he hates eating fish and is afraid of heights.
History[edit]
Paper Mario series[edit]
Paper Mario[edit]
When Mario falls into Goomba Village at the start ofPaper Mario, Goombario's sister,Goombaria, finds him and then lets him rest in the village'sToad House. Later, when Mario falls off the balcony inGoompa's house, Goompa and Mario find the former'sHammer and smash through aYellow Block to get back to Goomba Village. When they return, Goompa suggests that Goombario join Mario on his adventure, and he accepts. In the field, Goombario can use his tattle to find out where Mario is and tell him about the people that they meet. According to Goompapa, he is named after Mario.
If Mario holdsGoombaria'sDolly when returning toGoomba Village, Goombario will suggest that Mario return it toGoombaria; and if Mario says no, he would suggest that Mario return it when he is "done with it" (while Goombaria would call Mario a "meanie" if refused). At the end of the game, he is invited to the party byPrincess Peach.
Goombario receivesthree letters at theToad Town Post Office: one from theRed & Blue Goomba Bros. and two from his grandparents.
Goombario is very analytic and playful, as he hints at desires to play with youngToads, youngYoshis, andMerlow. He will occasionally break the fourth wall and his tattles seem to indicate a friendly rivalry withKooper. He also stated he does not like eating fish, would like anAlbino Dino as a pet, and that he is afraid of heights. He is also infatuated with various female characters in the game (namelyMisstar,Vanna T.,Merlee,Merluvlee, andPop Diva).
