History[edit]
Donkey Kong Country Returns (3D /HD)[edit]
In the opening cutscene ofDonkey Kong Country Returns and its3DS andNintendo Switch ports, Gong Oh is one of the Tikis seen emerging from the rocks from the eruption of the volcano onDonkey Kong Island. It flies down into the jungle to hypnotize a zebra, as part of a plot to stealbananas from all over Donkey Kong Island. Later in the cutscene, it guides a group of animals pulling bananas pastDK's Tree House.
The transition for being defeated in levels of theRuins depicts Gong Oh's silhouette, except for in Time Attack mode.
Donkey Kong andDiddy Kong encounter Gong Oh in the final level of the Ruins,Ruined Roost. When the Kongs approachStu's egg, Gong Oh uses its music to trigger two monkey statues to hit a giant gong in the background. This breaks the floor beneath the Kongs' feet and cracks the egg, but Gong-oh's song further holds the egg in the air. The egg is soon dropped inside a golden cauldron, then Gong Oh hides inside it and hypnotizes the newly hatched Stu into fighting the Kongs. Once Stu is defeated, Gong Oh is left dizzy and vulnerable to attack. Attacking them and knocking them into the distance completes the level, or they can be left to recover and fly away to the same effect.
In the final level of the game,Tiki Tong Terror, Gong Oh and the other high-ranking members of the Tiki Tak Tribe partake in a ritual converting them into hands forTiki Tong. The hands are destroyed in the battle.
