Variant ofFire Flower

Gold Flowers arepower-ups that debuted inNew Super Mario Bros. 2. They first appear inWorld 2-1. When one is collected,Mario orLuigi becomesGold Mario or Silver Luigi, respectively, and is able to shoot Gold Fireballs or silverfireballs that explode and do splash damage when they hitblocks, enemies, or walls. Ifenemies are hit by the projectiles, they yield a number ofcoins. These fireballs are capable of taking out stronger enemies that are normally immune to regular fireballs, and they defeatBowser in one hit. However, theKoopalings still have to be hit three times, and aBoohemoth cannot be defeated at all. Blocks with items are activated when caught in an fireball explosion, andBrick Blocks without items transform into coins.Jumping onstomp-able enemies also gives coins. If Gold Mario or Silver Luigi takes damage, he reverts to hisSuper form. If Gold Mario or Silver Luigi beats acourse, he returns to hisFire form. The Gold Flower has unique sound effects when coming out of a? Block and when being used to transform, in the same way that theSuper Leaf andMega Mushroom do.

Gold Flowers are fairly uncommon in the game. There are two ways to obtain them aside from the occasional ? Block, both of which add the flower directly to the player'sitem storage rather than changing the player's form. The player can receive a Gold Flower fromToad if they enter aYellow Toad House (except inWorld Star, where Toad provides aSuper Star instead). If the player collects all eightRed Coins fromRed Rings inRainbow Courses andWarp Cannons, the player gets a Gold Flower. The Gold Flower has higher priority than most other items, meaning only the Mega Mushroom and theInvincibility Leaf can override the Gold Mario or Silver Luigi form, and collecting a Gold Flower asWhite Raccoon Mario or White Fox Luigi puts the Gold Flower into the item storage. The only item that can replace a stored Gold Flower is a Super Star granted directly to the item storage.

Gold Flowers have a key role in theCoin Rush mode. After completing the main game, done through completingWorld 6-Bowser's Castle, the player starts each pack of courses with a Gold Flower in the item storage. Since the mode is scored for collecting coins, using the Gold Flower in the item storage properly is a critical part of collecting the most coins. If the player chooses to play as White Raccoon Mario, they do not get a Gold Flower in the item storage. The Gold Flower is the focus of theGold Rush Pack and the three courses within, as all of them contain Gold Flowers.[1] The icon for the pack is a Gold Flower.

Gold Flowers return as usable items for shots inMario Golf: World Tour. They grant the player one coin for every yard that the ball travels, and they are not effective in putts.
