AGold Big Piranha is a gold variant of aBig Piranha Plant that only appears a single time inNew Super Mario Bros. 2 onWorld 1-A. The Gold Big Piranha can only be seen after activating aGold Ring in a secret area and running to aPipe Cannon all the way to the right; the pipe cannon will launch the player to the right of aBig Piranha Plant that will briefly appear gold until theGold Ring's effect wears off. Gold Big Piranhas have no notable differences from regularBig Piranha Plants besides the gold color and giving 5coins upon death.

Naming[edit]
Though included in the Japanese guidebook, this enemy is not in the enemy index forNew Super Mario Bros. 2 in theSuper Mario Bros. Encyclopedia[1] orMario Portal. This distinction is shared with theGold Mini Goomba. It is also the only type ofPiranha Plant introduced in theSuper Mario series to not be mentioned byViridi duringPalutena's Guidance on Piranha Plant inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate at the time of its release in 2019.
