Giant Punch
Giant Punch is aneutral special move used byDonkey Kong in theSuper Smash Bros. series.
The Giant Punch involves the player holding down the
. This causes Donkey Kong to swing his arms back and forth, charging up a punch. After swinging his arm a few times, Donkey Kong's head begins to smoke, indicating that his Giant Punch is fully charged. When the player presses
again, Donkey Kong will release a strong punch. The charge can also be "paused" by eithershielding or rolling, and can be continued as normal. The more time that Donkey Kong winds up his attack, the stronger his punch is. If Donkey Kong is attacked while charging his attack, he loses all of the build-up. BeforeSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, using the move in mid-air will put Donkey Kong in ahelpless state.
In a cutscene of theSubspace Emissary mode ofSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, Donkey Kong uses Giant Punch to rescueDiddy Kong from being hit byBowser'sDark Cannon, only to be hit by it in the process.
InSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS /Wii U, two additional variants were introduced: theLightning Punch andStorm Punch. Lightning Punch has a faster charge to maximum and deals electric damage, though it's less powerful, and Storm Punch is also less powerful while creating a whirlwind that knocks opponents away while punching.
