Ghost Valley 1 is the thirdrace course of theMushroom Cup inSuper Mario Kart. It is an old bridge surrounded byBoos. It is also the first ghost-related course in theMario Kart series, and is also the first course set in a dark environment on a dilapidated pier-like road surrounded by Boos, a theme that future tracks follow, namelyBanshee Boardwalk inMario Kart 64 andBoo Lake andBroken Pier inMario Kart: Super Circuit.
The course returns as the third course of theExtra Mushroom Cup inMario Kart: Super Circuit, and inMario Kart Tour where it first appeared in the2019 Halloween Tour, and inMario Kart World, where it is traversed duringroutes to or fromBoo Cinema.
Super Mario Kart[edit]
Course layout[edit]
The course begins with a brief straight followed by the first set of? Panels and a 90° turn to the left. There is then a slight left turn followed by a slight right turn and another 90° left turn. Racers then go off a wide jump pad and briefly drive straight, where there is a ? Panel on both sides of the track; there is a jump pad in front of both, requiring racers to hop over the jump pad to reach the ? Panels. Racers then take another 90° left turn followed by another wide jump pad which takes them over a small gap. There is then a 90° right turn and two 90° left turns followed by a brief straight, which brings racers to the finish line.
Most of the course is surrounded by tiles which act as guard rails, but bumping into a tile will destroy it, allowing racers to go through the subsequent gap and fall off the course.
Shortcuts[edit]
A notable shortcut can be found just after the second wide jump pad. Instead of taking the subsequent right turn, the player can use aFeather to hop over a gap and reach a very narrow stretch of track that allows them to cut off the final two turns. Alternatively, this can be performed by using aMushroom to boost off the aforementioned jump pad, or by using a well-timed hop on 150cc.
Mario Kart: Super Circuit[edit]
Ghost Valley 1 reappeared inMario Kart: Super Circuit, and is the third track of theExtra Mushroom Cup. It uses the background fromBoo Lake. It is relatively the same as itsSNES counterpart, although the two small bouncy pads before the two lone item boxes and the legs holding the track up are removed.
Mario Kart Tour[edit]
Ghost Valley 1 reappears inMario Kart Tour, starting with the2019 Halloween Tour. It is one of the sixSuper Mario Kart courses in the game to have not previously appeared as a classic course sinceMario Kart: Super Circuit, the other five beingVanilla Lake 1,Choco Island 1,Donut Plains 2,Vanilla Lake 2, andBowser Castle 3. The background appears to be less dark compared to its original appearance, allowing visibility of mountains, dead trees and an entire lake surrounding the track. The newly-added starting banner, which uses the classicMario Kart logo, is held up by two light posts. The second smoother 90° turn is now made sharp. While the Item Boxes behind the two shortjump pads are absent, an extra set of Item Boxes are added on the jump pad before them. The jump pad, gap, and 90° turn near the shortcut were moved back, and the straight following said turn is wider. The shortcut itself is blocked by acutout of Boos, which hides a jump pad behind it. Additionally, the smoother turn at the end of the shortcut is wider. Unlike the original, guard edges are not destroyed after bumping into them, and there are more present on the insides of the smoother 90° turns.
The course also appearsGhost Valley 1R (reversed),Ghost Valley 1T (with ramps), andGhost Valley 1R/T (reversed with ramps). The former two were introduced alongside the normal variant in the 2019 Halloween Tour, while the latter was introduced in theValentine's Tour. In all three variants, aglide ramp is present.Piranha Plants also make an appearance in the R and R/T variants.
While many classic courses inMario Kart Tour use their original music, the course uses theMario Kart Wii arrangement of this music, which is heard inSNES Ghost Valley 2.

Mario Kart World[edit]
Ghost Valley 1 can be found on the in-game world map alongsideGhost Valley 2 andGhost Valley 3 outsideBoo Cinema.[5] Being located in the middle of the three, Ghost Valley 1 is driven along briefly during theLeaf Cup, taking racers directly into the cinema. Like the other Ghost Valley courses here, it now takes place over apoison lake, surrounded by dead trees, andSwoops also appear.[6] Despite the Feather's return, the shortcut in prior games is only present in themission "Race around a tribute to Ghost Valley 1!", now made of blocks instead of wood. The small ramps after the first big one are absent. All the 90° turns are sharp. The route from Boo Cinema to Starview Peak uses nearly the entirety of Ghost Valley 1, only users turn right at the final turn instead of left.
