Gargantua Blarggs are massiveBlarggs that reside inlava. They first appear inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island along with their blue,water-dwelling counterparts,Nep-Enuts.
History[edit]
Yoshi's Island series[edit]
In theYoshi's Island series, Gargantua Blarggs have maintained a consistent behavior. When aYoshi approaches, they attempt to blockYoshi's path by rising from the lava as he approaches. To pass by a Gargantua Blargg, Yoshi must throw anegg into its mouth. The Gargantua Blargg will then sink into the lava, allowing Yoshi to continue past it. However, it re-emerges after a few seconds. Unlike the smallerRed Blargg, Gargantua Blarggs cannot be defeated with anAnywhere POW. InYoshi's Island DS, Gargantua Blarggs only appear inGilbert the Gooey's Castle, but the game introduces a much tallervariant of the same name that can destroy dense rocks. InYoshi's New Island, Gargantua Blarggs only appear in two levels,Gargantua Blargg Attacks! andHotfoot Hurdle.
Tetris Attack[edit]
In the gameTetris Attack, a Gargantua Blargg appears as a ruler of the "Lava World", being allied withFlamer Guy. In here, as many other old enemies of Yoshi, was shown as a friend of Yoshi, being enchanted by Bowser to work for him. It replaces the flame fairy, Flare, from the originalPanel de Pon.
Yoshi's Woolly World /Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World[edit]
InYoshi's Woolly World andPoochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, Gargantua Blarggs are orange scarves bending to keep the outline of a Gargantua Blargg. The scarf is further held up by a metal rod, bent in the Blargg's face area. They lack fangs in this game. Gargantua Blarggs usually chase Yoshi around, impeding him greatly due to their size and fire damage. They accelerate as they move, but they can only turn when at a complete stop, meaning they can chase Yoshi from long distances but take a while to turn around if they miss. Gargantua Blarggs can pass through semisolid platforms, but stop at solid terrain. Hitting one with ayarn ball, watermelon seeds from awatermelon or with fire breath from anfire watermelon forces it backward a little. It takes three yarn balls, a large number of watermelon seeds, or ice breath from anIce watermelon to make the Gargantua Blargg hide back in the lava temporarily. They appear in the levelsLava Scarves and Red-Hot Blarggs,King Bowser's Castle, andSkeleton Goonies' Lava Lair, though King Bowser's Castle only has one Gargantua Blargg in its red room. In Skeleton Goonies' Lava Lair, Gargantua Blarggs only charge straight ahead and do not turn around. Given the lack of terrain and deadly lava below, they serve as extremely tall obstacles that must be surmounted by jumping from theSkeleton Goonies.
Yoshi's Crafted World[edit]
Gargantua Blarggs reappear inYoshi's Crafted World, in the levelPoochy's Magma Run. They are made of bubbled slime and have the same behavior as in theYoshi's Island games. When a Gargantua Blargg is hit by Yoshi's egg, it spins sinking down. There is also a costume and a craft based on Gargantua Blarggs.
