Fuses are obstacles of theQix games. They areSparx created on the player's line if the player stops for a long time while the line is being made. The fuse will depart from the attached line and will reach theMarker, causing a life loss if it manages to reach it.

In the first storyline of theSuper Mario Land 4 manga,Mario and his friends are challenged byQix Daiō into facing three minions in a real-life game ofQix. One singular Fuse appears in the story: duringPeach's turn, between escaping theQix and theSparx, she sits to catch her breath, only to be eliminated when a Fuse sneaks up on her, blowing her out of the arena. Like the Sparx, the Fuse is depicted with an angry expression, but with bigger eyes and a malicious smile.

In the last chapter ofSuper Mario Land 4, aGoomba analyzes how each of the characters playsQix:Bowser is seen making a spiral, only to be killed by a Fuse, and the Goomba deems him as "a guy that would imitate Tarzan, only to get tangled in the vines."
