Bowser's Fury islands

Fort Flaptrap is an island located onLake Lapcat, the main location of theBowser's Fury campaign ofSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. It is one of the few islands that surrounds the LakesideGiga Bell. The island features a castle-like building which contains a large pool oflava. The top of the castle has grating andRed-Blue Panels over this pool of lava, the latter of which leave openings where the player or grounded enemies can fall into the lava. Since they are Red-Blue Panels, the player has control of which side of the Red-Blue Panels have openings into the lava.

Fort Flaptrap emphasizes fighting enemies across the top of the fort, with a different set of enemies appearing for each of its three sequential missions. Two of the three sequential missions are about defeating all of the enemies.

The main platform of the fort of Fort Flaptrap is surrounded by an invisible wall that only affectsPlessie, so Plessie cannot be brought up there. This wall additionally blocks off the Red-Blue Panels used to climb up to the main platform.

Layout[edit]

The cat shaped arch denoting the start of Fort Flaptrap is on a smaller island connected to the primary island by a wooden bridge. There is aDash Panel on this smaller island. On the primary island, the fort has a squat "Y" shape. If the player approaches from the wooden bridge, they will be facing the west side of the fort. The west side of the fort is the side with the two points of the "Y". The side that only has one point, the east side of the fort, has the island'slighthouse on top of it. The walls of the fort are low enough thatCat Mario can climb to the top of the fort with onejump of any height and a single use of the form'sclimbing ability.

At ground level, Mario can circle the fort's exterior, as there is a reasonable amount of land on the island not occupied by the fort. Moving clockwise around the fort allows Mario to walk up the north wall of the fort. The wall has an alcove whose two entrances are each blocked by aBrick Block. Just before the corner between the north wall and the east wall, there is another Dash Panel. The east wall's protrusion for the side of the "Y" with one point is an archway that Mario can pass underneath. A full set of fourkittens are under the archway, Alternatively, Mario can go around the far end of the arch. Just before the corner between the east wall and the south wall, there is another Dash Panel. This corner of the fort has two Brick Blocks and two? Blocks attached to it, one of which contains a power-up. Just before the corner between the south wall and the west wall, there is a fourth Dash Panel. There are moretrees near the south wall compared to any of the other walls. There areArrow Signs attached to the walls of the fort which direct the player back to the west wall. The east wall has two of them, one closer to the south wall and one closer to the north wall, so it does not favor either direction.

The west wall, the one with the two points, has an Arrow Sign directing the player to the top of the fort and provides two means of doing so. There are fourRed-Blue Panels on the inside of the "Y" formation, arranged where the positions of their pivot points form the vertices of a diamond. The topmost Red-Blue Panel is level with the top of the fort. On the point of the "Y" closer to the north wall, there is a ramp with cat footprints against the wall, which allows Cat Mario to climb to the top of the fort without having to jump.

Just in front of the topmost Red-Blue Panel, is the pedestal that the Cat Shines for Fort Flaptrap's three sequential missions appear at. At the top of the point of the "Y" closer to the north side of the fort there is a ? Block containing a power-up. At the top of the point of the "Y" closer to the south side of the fort there is aHidden Block that contains aSuper Star. If the island's mission is "Bully the Cat Bullies", theCat Bullies only appear when the player reaches the ceiling of the fort for the first time. The Cat Bullies stay even if the island is unloaded and reloaded, but they despawn if the game is exited and reloaded. Ahead of all three areas of the areas with key objects, the fort's ceiling drops downward slightly and changes to the grating material with Red-Blue Panels mixed in. There are nine Red-Blue Panels across the ceiling, placed with no discernible pattern, though all of them are placed in orthogonal directions and never diagonal ones. Crossing the top of the fort allows the player to reach the top of the archway what makes up the east wall's protrusion for the side of the "Y" with one point, which has a series of solid steps rising from the wall to the archway. The archway has Fort Flaptrap'slighthouse, whoseClear Pipe and Cat Shines face toward the Cat Shine pedestal on the other side of the top of fort.
