Flying Pizza

TheFlying Pizza is a spaceship used byMario,Luigi,Princess Toadstool andToad, inThe Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Star Koopa."

The Flying Pizza is originally intended to transport Mario and his friends to theMushroom Planet, so that they could save theMushroom Colonists from the wrath ofDarth Koopa, who has plans to destroy their planet. However, Mario's plans are aborted when the Flying Pizza is spotted by Darth Koopa andMouser, who are aboard theKoop Star. Although Mario attempts to outfly the Koop Star in the Flying Pizza, the Koop Star proves to be faster, and succeeds in pulling the Flying Pizza into its docking bay via a tractor beam.

With the Flying Pizza onboard the Koop Star, Darth Koopa orders hisStormtroopas to seize everyone inside the Flying Pizza. When they enter, the Stormtroopas duel Mario's group inside the Flying Pizza withLightplungers, with Mario's group the victor. However, Darth Koopa boards the Flying Pizza and challenges Mario to a Lightplunger duel. Although Mario appears to have won the duel, Darth Koopa retaliates by freezing Mario and his friends with afreeze ray, only to have them transported into the Koop Star.

Due to the fact that Mario's group never makes it back to the Flying Pizza, the ship is presumably destroyed along with the Koop Star when it is blown up by Mario's specially plantedBob-omb.

Naming[edit]

• The Flying Pizza's name is named after the flying saucer, a disc-shaped unidentified flying object orUFO.

• The Flying Pizza is clearly modeled after either theStarship Enterprises fromStar Trek or theMillennium Falcon fromStar Wars (which is the basis for the episode itself). Its status as the heroes' quickly captured ship also draws parallels with theTantive IV seen inthe originalStar Wars.
