Floating barrels[1] arelifts that float on the surface ofwater in theSuper Mario series. They function like large buoys and slowly sink under the surface when stood on by player characters, but rise back up once they hop off.
History[edit]
New Super Mario Bros.[edit]
Floating barrels debut inNew Super Mario Bros., appearing in the waters ofWorld 3-A andWorld 8-2. They slowly sink whenMario (orLuigi) is on top of them unless he is in hisMini form. RedKoopa Troopas occur on the tops of some floating barrels and do not weigh them down. The barrels always occur in the same waters as bomb-droppingSkeeters. In World 8-3, a? Switch causes thewater level to rise and it carries the barrels with them.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]
InNew Super Mario Bros. Wii, floating barrels occur only inWorld 4-2, a course filled withCheep Cheeps. The firstStar Coin of the course is above a floating barrel, andHidden Coins can be collected above several of them. Unlike the smallerbarrels in the game that the player character can carry, the large floating barrels has four hoops instead of three, just like the ones in the firstNew Super Mario Bros.
New Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]
Floating barrels inNew Super Mario Bros. 2 appear as sinkable platforms in the waters of the beach-themedWorld 3-1, functioning identically as they did in their predecessors. The third Star Coin is found below a barrel, which must be stood on to sink deep enough in order to collect.
