TheFlipswitch Galaxy is the smallestgalaxy inSuper Mario Galaxy and itsNintendo Switchport, and contains only one mission. The galaxy is composed of 18Flipswitch Panels whichMario (orLuigi) must step on. After all of them have been turned yellow, aPower Star appears. The background is a scene fromSuper Mario Bros., as shown in the pictures. They periodically switch between variations ofWorld 2-1 andWorld 1-2. The level features aSpring Vault that produces circular lasers which can damage Mario. Some Flipswitch Panels are also covered with movingSpike Traps that can hurt Mario. The music used for this galaxy is an arrangement of "Underground BGM" fromSuper Mario Bros. Arrangements of this theme are featured in later games, such asSuper Mario 3D Land,Super Mario 3D World, andSuper Mario Odyssey.
The galaxy can only be unlocked if the player has at least seven Power Stars.
Layout[edit]
The starting planet is the largest planet in the Flipswitch Galaxy and the only accessible one. It is covered in Flipswitch Panels (18 of them exactly) and several hazards such as spiked platforms andelectric rails. The platforms and electric rails move around the planet creating hazards for Mario to dodge as he goes through them.
The only other resident of the planet is a Spring Vault that releases circular shockwaves as Mario goes through the planet. Mario must flip all the Flipswitch Panels from blue to yellow and then, when they are all flipped, they will turn green. Once the Flipswitch Panels are green the laser-shooting Spring Vault will turn into aTrampoline and release a Power Star for Mario to get. The electric barriers and spiked platforms will also be deactivated.
Before Mario lands on the planet, he flies past 49Brick Blocks floating in space, which cannot be reached other than through hacking. Each of these blocks contains onecoin.[1][2]
